A member of the Isle of Man's parliament has been accused of using language more akin to the Nazis during a debate about the rights of transexuals.

John Houghton, a House of Keys member for Douglas North, spoke out against a gender recognition bill that will bring Isle of Man legislation into line with the UK.

"It defies common decency," he said.

"I can't support it, I won't support it. It takes human rights too far."

What would one expect of a tin pot independent dependency stuck between the UK and Ireland. It is not part of the UK or in the European Union. However the  islanders have to have a British Passport whch states on this - Isle of Man.

The fact that the Island is not in the EU, considered part of the UK politically and that they are even debating a Gender Recognition Bill is however good news as the European Court of Human Rights ruling on Transsexuals and Gender recognition does not legally apply to the IOM. Lets hope the Bill gets passed.

Big news indeed for an island whose claim to fame is a deformed cat, motorbike race and until recently public floggings and a ban on hommosexuality.

I hate to support a blatant Godwin, but they're right in making the comparison in this case. How the HELL can someone take human rights too far? That just doesn't make any sense at all.

the isle of man is pretty crazy...it's not even part of the UK, their government, the Tynwald, has just delegated certain responsibilities to the uk.
