GID: NOS

Back in my teens the therapist I was seeing for go knows why told me I had this. He didn't go any deeper than that though as per my request (My mother was in the rom when he told me, and I didn't want her knowing AT ALL!).

All I'v found about this is a few lines in the DSM: IV-TR. Does anyone have any resources on this specifically?

NOS (Not Otherwise Specified) is a catch-all phrase used widely in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders). It is usually placed at the end of some group of diagnosises for the remaining cases that don't exactly fit in one of the previous categories.

Under Gender identity disorder in the DSM is

• 302.85 Gender identity disorder in adolescents or adults
• 302.6  Gender identity disorder in children
• 302.6  Gender identity disorder NOS

Note that the same diagnostic code is shared by children and NOS.

I guess the only answer to this is to ask your therapist how your case does not fit in a standard diagnosis.

I haven't seen that guy in a loooong time. We didn't fit and he took my mother's side on most things plus he's really full of himself. I actually had my current psychiatrist say that about him too! 

Whatever, I can find my own truth through enough careful self examination.

Hehe! I got 302.85 when the insurance company sent me to a psychiatrist following a bad car crash.

I smashed my knee up and they were trying to claim psychological damages against the other party. Lovely psychiatrist though, we both found it amusing that it was the only diagnosis he could make when they were looking for depression, PTSD etc.
