Anyone else with glasses? (do you prefer contacts?)

I recently got glasses so I'm still in the phase of loving them with a fiery passion (I can finally see properly, it's awesome) I've googled around for contacts (loving the special effects kind, been getting discriminated on my own personal forum for wanting them but who gives a damn I love them)

I think glasses make me look more masculine too (for other FTM's maybe you should consider trying that theory)

I've had glasses since I was 2 years old. Yes, you read that right, two. I don't know what my eyesight is in the american measuraments but in the Europian ones: 0 being "perfect eyesight" I'm -9.5 on one eye and -9.75 on the other. You are considered "blind" at -10.
The negative numbers are nearsighted ofc. My "point of focus" (the farthest from my face I can see in perfect focus) without my glasses is about two inches from my eyes.
I don't get contacts cause I have to order them specially and that costs about twice as much as the regular ones. :/

And glasses are only masculine if you pick masculine frames.

Glasses!! I've worn glasses since 4th grade [9 years old].  Back then, things started looking blurry after about four feet in front of me.  Now, things start blurring about six inches away from my face. :-X I don't know what my prescription is, though.  I think my left eye is a little worse than my right.

I've never worn contacts.  I don't know if I ever will.  I like glasses too much. :) I consider them an accessory. :D They can be fashionable if you get the right frames.  And these days soooo many people wear contacts instead of glasses.. glasses are unique.

I've had glasses since I was 8 or so. I prefer contacts, but just can't afford them right now. I think I look better without glasses, not that I look horrible with them.  Just a personal preference. Contacts are also more... free, I think. I'm constantly readjusting my glasses because they slide, and it's a pain to wear hats at work and headphones for my MP3 player because of them.

I've worn glasses since a kid. I'm at -2.25 now (nearsighted).

When I started getting serious about my looks, I realized that I looked better without glasses.
I got contacts to adjust my vision for distance.
Since I'm old and have presbyopia I need reading glasses for most close tasks.
The good part is that I can pick up reading glasses anywhere very cheaply, between $1 and $20.

I guess I'm a new commer judging by the replies.  I started wearing glasses when I turned 40 (I'm now 57).  I'd worn them for about 7 to 8 years and found that prudent selection of frames could drastically change ones appearance.  However, I now wear contacts and have done for quite a while, and to honest, I do prefer them.

I have had glasses most of my life, and because I am so nearsighted the lenses are really thick.  I now use contacts but I still have to have reading glasses.  I think that my glasses are just too masculine looking and I can't afford new ones that are more feminine.

I've worn glasses since 7th grade, when my grades fell and my parents figured out that it was cos I couldnt see the board.

Anyway, when I transitioned, i got a bang out of being able to get women's frames finally. Now i don't think about it, but Panda's comment reminded me what a kick it was to finally be able to shop for the "right" frames.  :)

I've worn glasses for forever and a day. I hate them, but mostly because they get in the way when I'm boxing. And I hate trying to rest my head on a pillow while I watch TV and having my glasses bite into my head.

I tried contacts for this very reason, but they scare the hell out of me. I don't get frightened over many things, but when I couldn't get my contacts out, I had a panic attack. :icon_dizzy: A friend of mine had to talk me through meditation before I calmed down enough to pry them out.

Most people tell me that you get used to them eventually and become expert at taking them in, out, but ugh.

Same here, and with reading, too. I've had mine since I was six (kindergarten). They're ok, but I'm interested in corrective surgery sometime in the future. My eyes are getting progressively worse, left one more so.

My little sister got them recently. She's four. She's probably not going to remember what it's like to not wear them--I have a vague recollection. Sometimes they make me feel handicapped, though.

I wear bifocal contacts and had contacts for 30 years. I hate the feeling of glasses on my face including sun glasses.

I got my first reading glasses at age 40 then at 50 graduated to regular glasses for driving. I have trifocals as I need reading glasses for up close and for far away. At the computer, I don't need them, it is just at 20 feet or more or up close like reading a paper or book. I'm not that bad but just can't make out the different letters that look so much alike at 20 feet.
I know a lot of people who wear contacts, my wife use to wear then now she doesn't need them, she had that surgery to correct her vision.

You can get bi-focal contacts but they are very hard to get used to, that was my experience anyway.  I now use two different prescriptions, one for my left eye for reading and one for my right eye for seeing distance.  It works really well, it's amazing how the brain compensates and focuses both eyes, even though they have different prescriptions.  It's funny also; if I close my left eye, words on a page are blurry, and if I close my right eye, objects at a distance are blurry :)

I have had four eyes since forever  ;).  I tried contact lenses once but had to revert back to regular glasses due to the glorious corneal curvature changes that happen with HRT.

Wait... are you saying there's a word for those things my eyes can't see without? I thought those were part of my body!

I've had them since I was 7... maybe a few months before I turned 7 even, actually. I can't imagine what it would be like not to have them. My vision is so bad that when I was 12, my optometrist said if it kept getting worse at the rate it had been, I'd be blind within 5 years. Fortuitously, it stopped getting worse right about that time. Now I'm told I'm right on the brink of being legally blind... last dr said I had 20/1300 vision. Fun fun.

I've tried getting contacts numerous times over the years, but could never stand to put them in. Angular glasses CAN hide a round face, too, which helps if you're ftm but not on T. I just decided the glasses are a part of me now... and god knows what I'll do without them if I ever have Lasik.

Use reading glasses but hate them, really find it a pain to read a book using glasses as the field of vision is so limiting. Spoils the experience IMO.

Otherwise, thank God, my vision is excellent.
