I used a few different makeshift binders before buying one from Underworks, and I really prefer the latter. While it's tempting to go for something that only focuses on the chest region, I think the fact that most Underworks binders go the length of the torso is important for distributing the compression, thus enabling you to breathe a little easier.
Unfortunately, though, it doesn't look the best. While I'm overweight, without binding, my stomach doesn't protrude much at all. The way the binder works, however, in order to flatten my chest, my belly ends up protruding quite a bit. It's the only way I can really breathe without hindrance. It does get uncomfortable at times, but I far prefer it to the temporary solutions I used previously.
