WikiLeaks Exposes Australian Web Blacklist (Wired)

QuoteWikiLeaks on Thursday exposed a secret blacklist of web pages the Australian government reportedly is considering permanently filtering from the internet.

The list of some 2,395 web pages, the authenticity of which the Australian authorities dispute, includes the usual suspects of sites pertaining to child pornography, extreme violence and even bestiality. But not all the sites are offensive, and include links to rank-and-file pornography, YouTube videos, poker sites, WikiLeaks entries and even URLs to a Queensland dentist and dog-boarding kennel.

Of course, this kinda thing is going on everywhere, though it's typically business interests getting sites censored and people blocked. Sigh. So much for the freedom of the internet.

Now if only somebody could design a P2P-based internet infrastructure as opposed to the hierarchical IP-based thing we have going at the moment. That would inherently be uncensorable. *hintnudgewink* ;)

Yeah Censorship = poop. I know of one website that is blocked half the time I go to it. hipforums. Kind of annoying and ...well just plain wrongness.
