Amy Hunter, shown here at her home in Alamo Township, had gender-reassignment surgery in 2008 to become a woman. She describes living as a woman in a man's body as "spiritual dyslexia." "It's not just unhappiness," she says. "Your sensibilities don't match with how you're being socialized. I felt very disconnected at a very early age."
