For those of you who's had it done, how much did the surgeries costs? I'm wanting to know without insurance because I'm 99% sure the insurance company will refuse to cover them. >:(

Also, how long ago did you get each surgery done? I keep reading all these different prices that are mass differences. I'm wondering if the surgeries are cheaper now because of improved technology or cost more.

Whoa. :o That's the most I've seen yet for a hysterectomy & vaginectomy. If you don't mind me asking, how did you afford that? Looks like I'll be saving up alot of money.

How long did it take to recover from the top surgery and hysterectomy? My long-term goals are also oophorectomy and phalloplasty.

Hysterectomy, oophorectomy, phalloplasty... you know- the works.

That's how much hysto costs.  My insurance picked up all but a hospital copay. 

Top surgery is a 2 week initial recovery, 2 month total recovery.  Hysto was 3-4 week initial, 3 month total.

sorry, but "the works" isn't exactly a standard set of procedures.  and you can't get a phallo with just an oophorectomy.  clearly, you've got a ton of research to do.

I had my chest surgery with Dr Brownstein in September 08. The costs were as follows:
Surgical fee: $5500
Pathology fee: $200
Facility and anesthesiology fees: $2610

My hysto was on the NHS, so didn't cost anything, and I plan to get my phallo via the NHS also.

I had 4 weeks off work for my chest surgery, and 4 weeks off work for my hysto, which was done laparoscopically. Other methods of hysto might require more time to recover from.

However, everyone is different and heals differently, so it might well be entirely different for you.

eesh man, when i went to a conference last year Dr Webb (i think that's who it was) said a standard hysto would cost around 3-4k.  I'm guessing the vaginectomy is the really wallet killer.

Insurance won't cover me, they don't cover anything Trans related and they've never known about the "F".

Total:  8k

Plus Travel: aprox 2k

And let's not forget my ER visit for hematoma which would have cost me 12.5k .  Let's hope Insurance covers that.

No, a hysto alone would've been between 28-30k.  that number reflects hospital stay, etc.

FYI, this is a good way to lose your insurance coverage and be liable for anything paid out.

damn... better start saving up then.

Why would insurance drop me?  I got my new health insurance after I had my Sex Marker changed.

Nothing in the application asked if i'd had a sex change.

Yes, yes I do. I've been reading some on it and have been to websites but I'm not familiar with the terminology and everything yet. Bottom surgery would be so far in the future it's not funny. I just like to plan stuff for saving money.

Ah, ok.  the way i interpreted it was that you hadn't yet, which would constitute insurance fraud.

Top Surgery will cost between 6-10k
Metoidioplasty will cost between 5-20k
Phalloplasty will cost between 25-80k (and probably upwards)
Hysterectomy will cost between 10-30k

these estimates are all US prices.

I know some people try and get the hysterectomy covered if they have other issues in that area. I am going to try and go that route. I have my consult tomorrow for top surgery and will let you know the prices I get, but it looks like they are going to be around what others have quoted. Luckily T is not very expensive!

I have has issues in that area since I was 14 and have been on BC since then for medical reasons. I too am wondering if I can talk to a GYN to make it more "compatible" with insurance.

I had a consult for top surgery today it will be $7,200 plus medications. I am having Peri ( amazed how much smaller my breasts are) and that includes one revision after. He does not resize the nipple itself for 1 year so I will have to pay for that later but it is in office so no anesthesia or operating room costs.

I live in San Francisco, not Baltimore.  The price I quoted is what was billed to my insurance and included hospital stay, etc.  Outside of the bay area one can obtain a hysto much cheaper, but why would I travel 3000 miles for it when I have health insurance? Also, I went to a private hospital, not SF General.
