Kay.  So I have a friend giving me a surprise visit from out of town.  I figure with a fully staffed pharmacy, and me being fulltime and having gone OVERTIME to cover for other people, that if I asked off suddenly as they so commonly have they'd cut me some slack, but no, apparently they NEED me there and if I don't come I'll get a write up.

It's messed up because if I'd just waited until this morning to call out and say I was sick, they would let it slide.  But since I, out of consideration, asked several days in advance to get off so someone could cover for me, then I would be even MORE penalized by not coming in than if I had just lied like all the other girls do and say I was throwing up or something.

Luckily, there's this amazing stuff called syrup of Epicac.  Not so amazing really, stuff is apparently really nasty if you watch the youtube vids.  Either way, I'm gonna go to work for about half an hour with this diluted in my drink, till I start blowing everywhere, and then they'll send me home anyways.  I can say it's food poisoning, stress frolm having my friend in town so suddenly, stress from final exams, or a stomach virus I contracted from WORKING IN THAT STUPID PHARMACY.

:D

This is going to be fun at the same time as complete misery.

I can't wait:-p

I'll go to work for ya! I need a job anyway. :P

I'm going to assume you used syrup of Epicac before? truly horrid stuff! My stomach churned for hours after I expelled it.

i'd let em write you up, they are going to do it sooner or later whether you like or not. mine finally wrote me up for my absenteeism, but they can't fire me without going through their own procedures..lol

Funny, I have to force people with massive bleeding wounds to go to the hospital.  But they are aware - as perhaps your not - that there are hundreds, and in these times, maybe thousands of people who'd take that job in a heart beat - and given all this, deserve it more.

I've been doing 60 hour weeks on top of finals>.<

And I cover for anyone whenever I can.

And noone covered for me the first time I've ever even asked, well in advance too instead of last minute.

Sooooo.

Ima go get that stuff now and throw up>.<

all but the final exams(college? i'm sure), i've been in your shoes. do what you gotta do.

tekla, yep, there are plenty of people after her job, there are days i'd gladly take off my name badge and throw it at the person on the other side of the counter asking if we're hiring, saying here, you want my job that damned bad, you can have it while i literally fly out the door. in two days, i work more than some of the people in my dept. who are there 5. it's ridiculous. i'm sure she's qualified for something better anyway. thats what use to make America great---infinite opportunities.

Say it's swine flu and highly contagious. Might work.

I have called in many times, because of a 24 hour stomach thing (read hung over  :o or could not sleep the night before).   Works every time.

Don't bother asking...

Go in with a face mask and start coughing... When they ask you tell them it's nothing... They will ask you to go home!

Yup.

I took a really low dose and got nauseated but I knew it wasn't enough, and this stuff is poisonous and I knew I HAD to vomit it up or I could well end up in a hospital.  So I took some more, threw up, got off, but I still think I'm facing a write up.  On the bright side, I can at least throw some righteous anger around at being treated like crap by saying that even after I TRIED  to come into work and ended up throwing up because of it, and they're giving me a write-up, that I'd have every right to be completely pissed and bitch up a total storm.

Boy, it sure boggles my mind that they would want to lose a quality employee like you.  I'd sure do my best to keep people on who deliberately made themselves sick so they couldn't come into work.  Can't wait till your a doctor and have a sick patient and a golf tee time on the same day.  Fore.

I would save enough money so I would not have to work, then quit.

I'm a very, very sick person.  I like going to work.  I like to work.  I love the people I work with, and would do almost anything for them, and could never, ever bring myself to let them down or not pull my fair share of the load.  We don't have people who call in sick, I have to deal with people who don't want to stop working even when they need medical treatment fast.

But we're worthless, lazy hippies.

The secret of life is to do what you like and get paid for it. But then money can not buy happiness.

I'll second that.

But then money can not buy happiness.

True that, but it can sure postpone unhappiness.

And I was told long ago that I'd tend to forget how much I got paid, but I'd never forget if I did a good job or not.  Damn, I hate it when Dad was right.

And I do a lot of stupid things that I don't really like, but doing them with people who are my friends, and who do their fair share of the work makes such tasks a lot better.

Gee, when I'm on show call I'll put in 12, 14, hell last week it was a 19 hour day, while the basic crew is on for a split 8 (4 at regular time, 4 at time and a half).  But, by the time I get the 4 hours at time and a half, and the 7 hours of double time (plus three meals instead of just none or just one) well, its not like every single straight time person would not have paid me to switch with them.
