Maine governor signs same-sex marriage bill

AUGUSTA, Maine - Gov. John Baldacci on Wednesday signed a gay marriage bill passed just hours before by the Maine Legislature.

Baldacci made his announcement within an hour of the Maine Senate giving its final approval to LD 1020. The Senate voted 21-13 in favor of the measure after a short debate.

"In the past, I opposed gay marriage while supporting the idea of civil unions," Baldacci said in a written statement. "I have come to believe that this is a question of fairness and of equal protection under the law, and that a civil union is not equal to civil marriage."

I am glad that positive social change is happening, in fact it seems to be happening very quickly! 

Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, then Vermont, and now Maine.  Which state will be next?

you can cross Ohio off the Who's Next List, cuz it ain't ever happening here, they'll bring back execution by hanging before that ever happens!!

NH house just passed the amended bill that came back from Senate, keeping fingers crossed that Gov Lynch will sign, then we'll be next!

Actually its in the US Constitution. That Article and the "equal protection under the law" clause should make for an interesting Supreme Court case in a few years.
