Would you want a transplant

Sorry if this offends people, but it's been something that's been on my mind since all the news about the face-transplant.

The reason it's been on my mind has to do with discrimination.  I mean, the woman didn't need a face transplant for any medical reason other than to feel better about herself, more like the human being she felt she was.  Her life wasn't in danger, like somebody getting a kidney transplant.

I'm MtF, so I have no idea how FtM's feel about this, but I understand phalloplasty doesn't work real well.

So, my question is, if it was possible to get a fully functional transplanted penis from a cadaver, would you want it?  It seems to me, you should be as eligible for it as the woman who got the face-transplant.
It's easier to change your sex and gender in Iran, than it is in the United States.  Way easier.

Please read my novel, Dragonfly and the Pack of Three, available on Amazon - and encourage your local library to buy it too! We need realistic portrayals of trans people in literature, for all our sakes

Gina, you might wanna change "cadaver" to "donor." The difference is huge as a cadaver is going to have dead tissue. I cannot imagine anyone wanting dead tissue attached to their body.

And we won't even talk about nerve and muscle attachments to make the "transplant" work on it's new body.

You know what, I've actually thought about this alot. I say yes. It may not happen in my lifetime, but it might be done someday. This could also help men who have deformed or damaged penises.

What part of phalloplasty doesn't work well? Assumed, of course, you're not going to get the exact same results as a bio male.

Re: Would you want a transplant

Me personally, no. The only way I'd ever want a penis is if I was born with one. So, if I had been born right, hell yeah. But a transplant or phallo, no. Not for me. I have heard a couple guys say they wish this kind of thing could be done for us.

Phallo just isn't for me, but I might get a transplant if I had the chance.

Yep I am one of those guys.  ;D

I am most probably going to get a phallo. But if I could get one from a donor I def would.

Unfortunately transplants have a lot of risks involved  wrt rejection and the need to be on anti-rejection drugs life-long make it a no for me.  That and the fact that it may not function -- who wants a limp noodle?  And I'm assuming the testicles will be silicone implants, as I can't imagine the nuts maintaining function.

If I were younger and the possibility more realistic in my lifetime without side effects, I'd consider it.  But I'm not going to risk my life for a cock.

I don't like the idea of taking someone else's phallus, but if there was a way to grow them using stem cells or something, that would be cool (as long as it wasn't attached to a mouse).

I shudder at the idea of having someone else's wang. I don't want a penis in general anyways, they're weird.

If it was accompanied by a good surgery  and could be fully functional then yes I would take a transplant.  I would also take someone else's leg, arm or whatever so in my mind why not a penis. (only if it were 6 inches of course hahahaha)

In a word, no. I've never wanted someone else's anything attached to me. I'll happily take whatever I get from T and leave it at that. :P

Made me laugh. Those poor lab mice are subject to all kinds of weird torture. Stem cells I can see happening, but the morals police (religious fanatics) are slowing it down big time. Adult stem cells are very limited.

Read the newest Popular Science. They talk about stem cell research in the U.S. now that the ban's been lifted. Reading all this actually made me wonder if penises could eventually be created using stem cells. The possibility is there- just the technology and knowledge isn't. Yet.

with todays technology, no, i wouldnt want one.

if the transplant could be successful without all of the anti rejection drugs, then probably.

That is one interesting question indeed!

I'd probably do it if it didn't require anti rejection drugs and there was little risk (morally ok, would want the "end result", but there is a very slight and illogical "gross factor" I can't quite shake and would need to resolve first).

I'd be a definate without a second thought for a grown / lab made stem cell option though, even if the cells weren't mine and they were grown like a bunch of bananas on the back of a lab rat :).

I've been thinking about this forever! Cause then MTF's and FTM's could trade parts. Not to be weird.

I definitely would take a transplant if it were possible.

If it were possible and I didn't have to take anti-rejection drugs and it would definitely work, then in a heartbeat. If I had to take anti-rejection drugs, no. I don't feel so dysphoric that I have to risk shortening my life that much. The woman who had a face transplant had to deal with people's reactions to her every day in every situation. Nobody, I would venture to say, saw the real person behind the disfigured face. If I was in her situation, I might take anti-rejection drugs, much like I chose to take T even though I now have assumed a male lifespan estimate. I can't live with people not seeing the real me and treating me as someone else.

But what's in my pants mostly stays in my pants, so I can live with being different there until or unless there's a real alternative with risks I'm willing to accept. Stem cell transplant, I would do.

Well, only way I could think of is to somehow get a megadose of y-chromosome carrying viruses into your system (donated by a father or brother, preferably) and then to take one of your XXY cells and put the new genetic code into an empty stem cell. Then. . . It would be tricky to not grow an entire fetus.

That would be great. . . but I'm not sure how you would manage to transplant a vagina. Unless the whole pelvis was traded. . . but that seems just a bit risky.

I've thought about this for years also

A transplant in the most ideal situation, that is without any anti-rejection drugs and the penis working normally? Heck yeah, sure will.

Having to take drugs for the rest of my life, limiting me in my day-to-day stuff and the penis still needs a pump and such? No thanks, not for me.

I feel the same way about phallo. The idea is nice, but the actual implementation is not acceptable for me. Still too many risks for something that does not look like the real deal.
