Hello everyone, first off I am rather new to the forums. My name is Mia, I'm 21, and I will be having my surgery in Trinidad come January 5th, 2010! I realize that -seems- kind of far off, but it really isn't considering how long the wait has been in retrospect!

Anyway, I've been saving since 15 years old to get this done and with a combination of odd jobs, college finance refunds(windfall), and meticulous hard work, I was able to put together the grand total recently. What a stress relief, as I'm sure anyone that has saved for srs knows firsthand.

As for my age, I am happy to get this done. I get the right to buy alcohol, and a vagina at the same time. How lovely! All in all, I'm extremely excited, however I for some reason get moments of cold feet about my surgeon of choice. I think that's natural. "Is this the right person to go to?". I feel mostly confident, seeing as I have gotten this far already, but I've never really seen her results in person or anything so all I have is others experiences and my own personal research that make me generally pretty comfortable. (I hope I'm making the right choice with Ms. Bowers!)

Anyway, that's the gist of the things and I'll be posting and updating my process as it goes, including the surgery and after when it comes time. I'm excited but nervous, and my GG lesbian partner seems more excited than myself about it! But I think at this point I'm ready to just have it done so I can live the rest of my life! So, nice to meet you, denizens of Susan's place!

Oh and one more thing. Today marks the day I had my first electrolysis done on the genital regions. I have done laser previously but know that it is not permanent, so I figured to get the rest of this done with electrolysis.

I think the technique used was flash thermolysis, and I must say that I've never experienced such pain in my life. I came in using EMLA that had been prepared and cling wrapped to my nether regions, and left for about 3 hours, but I find that it certainly didn't prevent much at all. I never had to do any hair removal anywhere on my body but down there, and though it is sparse, holy crap!

I really need to do my homework on managing pain for this, and as I am not insured, I don't think finding a doctor to take care of things is going to help much. I used EMLA and Vicodin, and nothing. A few hairs on the scrotal region actually made me scream bloody murder, nearly breaking my poor girlfriend's hand in the squeeze I was giving it!

Anyway, we managed to clear most of the scrotal region..Phew. I wonder if the EMLA and a couple shots of vodka will improve my tolerance next session. I wonder if any of you gals and guys have any tips about this region, as it definately pertains to SRS, and it's a precursor to the surgery itself. Thanks!

Thanks Cami! I suppose age 21 -is- the age for milestones after all. Not much of a drinker but I may employ the service for this riduclous electrology!

Hello Shryke,

First off congrats on your "date" with Dr. Bowers. I only wished I had chosen to go the same routee you choose to undertake at 15.

Secondly, you might want to avoid alcohol both before and after electroylsis. The alcohol causes one to bleed easier with less clotting, and also slows the healing process.

Lastly welcome aboard.

She's really actually good and I didn't bleed at all. There was bumps and there still is, but they are really going down and I'm not in pain now. Its just -during- the process that it hurts and since I can't get a local or prescription medication, my figure was to help the experience while it happens. :)

Shryke:

Congratulations on both your date AND your perseverance to pay for this on your own.  I am truly impressed by one as young as you to have the strength of will and fortitude to pursue this financial goal on top of having to pursue your transition as well.

Very impressive!

Congratulations again!  And be sure to keep us posted on your progress and your trip!

Welcome Mia. Nice to have you add yourself to the Forum.

Please take the time to read the Terms of Service and Site Rules if you've not yet.

I hope you enjoy your stay and, yes, a 9months wait will skikp past before you know it. Quite a tribute to your desire to start saving at 15 and get your srs by 21. Way to go, girl.

I understand that scraping the hair follicles out with broken shards of pottery can be a good way to clear the genital area.  ;)

I didn't try it, but surely someone has since!  >:-) I mean, someone seems to have tried just about everything at least once!  Please let us know how it works if ya do!  ;)

All the best and enjoy your stay with us.
