QuoteAnd yet the changes aren't coming as fast as many gay Americans would like, and as our Bill of Rights would demand. Especially in Washington. Despite Barack Obama's pledges as a candidate and president, there is no discernible movement on repealing the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy or the Defense of Marriage Act. Both seem more cruelly discriminatory by the day.

And they are pushing Sarah Palin as U.S. president in 2012.

LOL just like they are pushing Rush.  The truth is someone like Haley Barber will be on the ballot.

Nah, its all about the early money, and Romney is going to lead that race.  Sara has a huge right wing fan club, and might win a few primaries but I doubt if her support is broad enough within the party to win it all.  However, as the number of 'Pubs keeps on moving down, it does increase her chances.

The party has no soul left. It is in disarray with no central cause. The money will come when they have unity under a leader. Obama had no money 3 years before the election.

As much as I dislike Haley Barber, He is an insider and has the patients and skill to pull it off. Watch the dust settle.

Well its still like forever away.  But I think HB has a chance in that the 'Pubs are becoming a Southern Rump party, but that also - to the degree it happens - is going to make winning a national election all but impossible.

Michelle.

I find this thread to be rather amusing.

Karen posts a NYT article that is about Obama's FAILURE TO MAKE GOOD ON CAMPAIGN PROMISES and those who reply start off by mentioning Palin and the Republican Party.

I always love the typical childish leftist way of referencing the opposition party as the, "pubs" etc. Wow such maturity.

Its Obama who LIED to those in the LGBT community who voted for him.

Obama, like any Democrat, will say anything to get elected. Then after being elected is only going to deliever you a devalued dollar, massive national debt, inflation, no jobs, and government run industries.

I just pray we survive the next 4 years.

In the interim, as in election, get ready for the GOP to sweep out the Dem's in the House, make gains in the Senate, reclaim govenorships and State Houses/Senates.

Should be fun to watch.

Oh and by the way... Palin is no real threat to go the distance in 2012. So why is the left so terrified of her in the first place?

It is too early to assume great gains for Republicans in midterm elections of 2010.

Barack Obama is a career politician who works with real issues. Sarah Palin is a right wing activist. Obama may not priorize GLBT-issues but Palin is anti-GLBT.

More childlish is to support right wing activists and live in denial what they want to do for GLBT-community. Of course democrats are not very pro-GLBT but the Republican party of today is anti-GLBT. For example marriage may very well in the future require DNA-testing so many employers. It is not a liberal lie that GLBT-community will get lesser rights than currently in case right wing activist get more power. It is rather a fact.

What was his lie?

He has been very busy and will not make the same mistake Clinton made early on.

It will be interesting who the court pick is. It also depends on a filibuster and if the senate can not muster the 60 vote as Franken has not got his seat yet. Politics is strategy and behind the camera work. It is not over till the fat lady sings. Also be careful what you wish for. I do not want special rights things are fine the way they are now if the law is enforced. The problem is not the law, but the law enforcement people.

H Clinton gave gay diplomats the same marriage rights as Straights.

"Dems" and "Pubs" are common shorthand nicknames in the political process.  It's not along the lines of the wingnuts calling it the Democrat party (it's the Democratic Party) or the new twist of calling it the Democratic Socialist Party - which is kinda funny in its own sick way.

I not only agree about not repeating the Clinton mistake so early on (and with not one, but count 'em, two war fronts happening to boot, Clinton punted it during peacetime), but I also think that out of the top 5 priorities LGBTXYZ rights come in at about 13 or 14 on the list.  Most of that is not up to Obama at any rate, at the most he can make symbolic actions, and the last thing he ought to be doing is anything that is strictly symbolic.

And, I'm going to give him a year before I start to evaluate his score card, its not an easy job to walk into, and he did walk into one hell of a mess - its not like most of that debt, or the collapse of the industrial base is his fault.

In the interim, as in election, get ready for the GOP to sweep out the Dem's in the House, make gains in the Senate, reclaim govenorships and State Houses/Senates.

It's not looking that way yet.  In fact, it looks more and more like the 'Pubs are only going to win in the Deep South and some of the center Midwest.  They are all but extinct in the Northeast - which by the way is where most of the money, industry and people are.  They are a fringe in the Far West, and that's not going to help them win a national election.

DOMA is going to go away when a majority of the states allow gay marriage.  Not before that.
