Two more companies have pulled their advertising as a result of the offensive comments made by KRXQ radio hosts Rob Williams and Arnie States.

The list of companies no longer advertising on KRXQ includes:

    * Chipotle
    * Snapple
    * Sonic
    * Bank of America
    * Verizon
    * Carl's Jr (CKE Restaurants)

Before everyone breaks their arm patting themselves on the back for this, the local coverage tends to indicate that all of this sponsorship pulling was because of the remarks about violence toward the precious snowflakes, and not anything they said about transgender people.

To be fair, they only said disparaging things against Transsexuals, they did not advocate violence against them, as they did with the precious snowflakes.

Wells Fargo and Nissan have now pulled advertising.

Looking back through the reports,  Wells Fargo and BofA actually pulled it for trans reasons as well as violence. Some of the others did so after they apologized for the violence part of  it. So at least some of them are standing up for both reasons.

Most of the reports are also being sent to Glaad, as opposed to general media outlets. So there is some TG support involved in at least some of these corporate decisions.

Tekla, if they can hit their own child, what makes you think they would stop if someone is an adult. Other than an a** kicking.

Actually I doubt they would do anything.  They get paid to be 'shocking' and I guess this time they did their job a bit too well.  But I doubt they 'are' in real life anything like their radio personalities, any more than David Caruso is really a CSI cop, or a scientist, or anything but a very bad actor.

But I would never listen to commercial corporate media at any rate, the only radio I listen to here is KPFA which I'm sure is a bit too left wing for most people here with shows like Democracy Now!, Capitalism and Its Discontents, Guns and Butter (described as: investigating the relationships among capitalism, militarism and politics. Maintaining a radical perspective in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks, "Guns & Butter: The Economics of Politics" reports on who wins and who loses when the economic resources of civil society are diverted toward global corporatization, war, and the furtherance of a national security state.) Uprising Radio, Behind the News, and other left wing fare.

What people do, or say on commercial corporate radio, propaganda for sheep at best does not ever concern me, and what happens to people who listen to is does not concern me either.

You get what you pay for after all, and if Bank of America is sponsoring your listening, your getting their party line.  You think what they want you to think, that they toss you a bone now and again, well, good dog.  Now roll over and go back to playing dead.

UPDATE: McDonald's Is 10th Company to Pull KRXQ Advertising

June 5, 2009 by Andy Marra, Senior Media Strategist @ GLAAD

http://glaadblog.org/2009/06/05/update-krxq-confronted-by-advertisers-media-and-community/

GLAAD just posted a recap of its activity relating to KRXQ and its offensive comments against transgender children. The summary also included a statement from AT&T announcing their decision to pull its advertising from the radio station. You can find all of that plus recent media coverage here.

Minutes after posting our recap, I received an email from McDonald's at 9:17pm EST. Soon after I spoke with a member of the McDonald's Public Relations team who wanted us to post and distribute their statement.

A  Mark Twainism comes to mind here, "I wont be attending his funeral, but I'll be sure to send a letter voicing my approval."

I just wanted to chime in and say KPFA is indeed awesome. I have worked with them in the past and I've always had a wonderful time serving them. They have a dedicated user base for a reason.

Mister

Doesn't so much matter if the underlying cause was child abuse or transphobic language-- still sends the same message to this station or any other that's paying attention.  Listeners writing letters and changing the station only have so much impact, but advertisers hit their bottom line.

The obvious answer is not to listen to commercial radio in the first place. And those two will only be replaced by two more obnoxious people - same crap, different day.

I don't, but it doesn't mean my inbox doesn't get flooded by people who do.

And I third Pacifica.

I agree they probably aren't likely to hit their own kid, but how many listening will. People are stupid.

Sorry Tekla, but suggesting hitting a kid with a shoe or throwing a shoe at a kid is violent behavior. This promotion of violence is encouraging both child abuse as well as violence against trans people including adults.

Advertisers Pull Ad After Hateful Radio Show
perezhilton

http://perezhilton.com/2009-06-06-advertisers-pull-ad-after-hateful-radio-show

Following the hateful and transphobic comments of morning radio DJ Rob Williams and Arnie States on Rob, Arnie & Dawn in the Morning, several advertisers have pulled their ads from Sacramento, California, radio station KRXQ.

So far, Bank of America, Verizon, Carl's Jr., Snapple, Chipotle, and Sonic have cut ties with the station, with Wells Fargo and Nissan to follow after Williams called a young boy wanting to transition from male to female "a weird person who is demanding attention" and advised his mother to tell him that wearing a dress is "not what we're doing in this culture." He also called transgender people "freaks" who simply require therapy since "they were [probably] molested" as children.

UPDATE: KRXQ Radio Host Rob Williams Declares Failure
June 7, 2009 by Andy Marra, Senior Media Strategist @ GLAAD

http://glaadblog.org/2009/06/07/update-krxq-radio-host-rob-williams-declares-failure/

I received a tip from a GLAADblog follower about a statement posted by KRXQ radio host Rob Williams who owns the "Rob, Arnie and Dawn in the Morning" show. At 11:50am PST, Williams issued a statement about their May 28 segment where Rob and Arnie made offensive remarks against transgender children. They refused to apologize on a follow-up show.

The statement comes after a week of turmoil for the radio station. On June 1, GLAAD issued a Call to Action that mobilized hundreds of people to contact the radion station and voice their concerns. You can read more about that here and here.
