Okay, I'm used to completely annihilating and attacking teh slightest hint of a bump as it appears and now I'm scared to pick cause there's a lot of em. I'm scared of having acne scars like I've seen on some guys. I don't want craters or naything. i've been washing the face with a pore cleanser and putting cream on various zits. How to avoid craters?

I start with a medicated foaming facial cleanser and a facial scrubby. Then I use a Deep cleaning astringent, also medicated with Salicylic Acid 0.5%
After that dries, then I put the zit cream. Then a moisturizing sun block.
Also be sure when you wash your face to pat it dry, don't rub

Hope that helps - Virginia

Avoid craters by not picking at them.  Skin has elastic properties so bumps and spots, while unsightly, won't usually leave a scar *unless* you've turned them into open sores by picking at them.

If you have a yellow/white spot with obvious pus just below the surface that you really can't leave alone, use a fine needle to lance it and carefully ease the pus out with gentle pressure rather than "popping" them.  Immediately treat the area with astringent.

However, this is best for "standalone" spots.  If you have clusters of them in close proximity, or if the area is angry and inflamed, you may make things worse for the neighbouring acne.  Frustrating though it is, the best course of action is facewash and patience as Virginia Marie described.

Oh yes, one final note - you may have seen those little implements with a fine wire loop for removing whiteheads and blackheads etc.. They work better than fingers when easing out pus because they help apply the required pressure in a more controlled way.

Bottom line, never pop acne open by finger force.

The best thing I've found for acne is a product called Bump Stopper 2.  It's actually a shaving product designed for getting rid of shaving bumps.  While it doesn't totally get rid of my acne, it makes the eruptions much smaller and less painful.  It's also slightly tinted, so it helps even out your skin tone.  (Yeah.  Foundation for men, more or less.  ;) )  Unfortunately, my local Target just stopped carrying it.  >:(  On the other hand, I managed to pick up a couple jars on clearance for 75% off.

I don't use nothing. Just wash my face with water daily and sometimes if my face does feel gritty I will use a strong exfoliator. However I have noticed that I get alot of spots after shaving.. so I have started to just wet shave now, as it limits the amount of spots I get. Even with sensitive shave lotion/cream/gel I get them so who knows!

I just wouldn't pick them matey!

Nero, does your skin scar easily?  That does make a big difference on how you want to treat them.

I have always used apricot scrub with Salicylic acid.  It is pretty good at keeping skin toned.  Target has a really good generic brand for cheap.  It is very fine.  Some of them are too clumpy.  If my skin feels dry, I use some baby wash mixed with the apricot scrub.  That takes the edge off.  I do this twice a day to exfoliate.  Just don't rub hard, that will be a mistake and start you peeling a little.

After your breakouts seem to die down I would really recommend you going in for a chemical peel.  It is not too expensive and will help take your skin back to where it was before.

Good luck!

In my case, massaging my face with two blocks of ice from the refrigerator helped remove eposodic zits completely. If your face is oily skin, then shrinking pores by massaging with ice will greatly help. In my case, outdoor exercise caused the problem.

Of course, I tried some medical products, but they did not help at all or made it worse. The ice method was recommended to me by a dermatologist.

Just do it.

Hmm interesting!  I wonder if the ice method will work on back spots too?

I had quite bad acne for the longest time even without T, the only thing I found which didn't irritate my skin/dry it out/make it greasy was "angels on bare skin" from Lush. You can order it online and their stores are everywhere. Since using that every day my skin is smooth and zit free. If I miss a few days of using it the zits return :P

Bio-oil is also highly recommended, it feels greasy when you apply it but it does help prevent scars and make ones that are already there less visible. It's also good for stretch marks and dry skin.

Some peoples skin does do much better with nothing but water.

Too much stuff can make the problem worse.
