(Los Angeles) Chastity Bono is having a sex change to become a man. A spokesman for Bono, born a girl to Sonny and Cher, says he "has made the courageous decision to honor his true identity" and began the sex-change process earlier this year. Publicist Howard Bragman said Bono is proud of his decision and hopes "that his choice to transition will open the hearts and minds of the public regarding this issue."

The 40-year-old writer, activist and reality-TV star came out as gay 20 years ago, Bragman said.

In the book "Family Outing: A Guide to the Coming-Out Process for Gays, Lesbians, & Their Families," Bono describes the realization of being "somehow different - specifically different from who my mom expected me to be."

When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

I have seen it on the local news.  It will get the world talking about transsexuals.  And may be even further our acceptance in society.  Maybe.  ::)

And the much needed information that you can 'go the other way' in transition also :P I don't know how many times I've met people who had no idea FtM's existed...

I don't know. I don't want knowledge to suddenly make it harder for us to pass as it has with mtfs...

In my personal opinion, you guys seem to have it a little easier than us girls.  Especially if you are post-top-op.

Even biowomen who are lesbian and dress masculine seem to be more accepted than a CD.  It just seems that society has except this as another person.  I admit that I have been very lucky as I move forward.  I am accepted as a woman by most people.  even customers who know that I am TS, still treat me as another woman.  I am truly blessed.

I hope that people will see Chaz and think that all of us are just trying to be just another guy/girl.

I hope I haven't upset any one.  I love all of my family here and I am just one lucky girl to not have any BS in my life, YET.
