In the Shadows of Giants

In a lot of ways, it's great living in the San Francisco Bay Area. There's a lot out here for CDs and TGs. But, it seems to be best if one is in one of the larger cities.

I'm having a tough time finding anything on the Peninsula. If my 'net searching is to be believed, all CD/TG stuff on the Peninsula is in San Francsico or in San Jose and there's nothing in between. This makes me think that a) that's true and there's didly squat in San Mateo County or b) there is stuff here but it's "underground," for lack of a better word.

Well, that's not exactly true. There do seem to be things for youth, but it's been 20 years since I fit that category.

The upside is that neither SF or SJ is all that far away, and public transit can easily get me to both cities. I just prefer to live closer to home, so to speak.

If memory serves, there's a group in Redwood City.  Want me to try to find the info?

That would be great! I thought there was one, but I'm having a tough time finding it now.

There's also a TGSF bowling team (league?) that bowls in Colma, if that's your thing.

I love bowling, even though I suck most uproariously at it.

TGSF used to do a few things in San Mateo, but you might be right, the Peninsula gets the short end of a lot sticks being stuck where it is. It's tough to match the facilities in SF or SJ, and its not enough out of the way like CCC to really do your own thing.

There are times when I think that the SF Chronicle believes that the Peninsula is the area between Redwood City and Palo Alto. Hell, even the San Mateo newspapers don't give the peninsula all that much coverage.

I couldn't find the Redwood City group, but I'll keep poking around.  I know it sucks to commute to SJ or SF, but Caltrain makes it pretty easy.

Depending on where old Shades is in DC or SSF Bart might be just as easy, it ends up in more places, and unlike caltrain ends up in a place you want to be - baseball excluded.

didn't realize shades was in DC or SSF. 

i mentioned caltrain because you can walk to the defrank center in sj from the station.

I always thought Shades was North of the San Mateo deal, but who knows, could be he's really a full professor of classical lit at Stanford.

Shades grew up in SSF but lives in San Mateo currently.

[Mister]
