I imagine drains are rather uncomfortable. What's it feel like anyway?
I couldn't really feel the drains inside me, but the apparatus outside was irritating. I had a lot of tubing draped around my middle and was always worried that I would catch my hand in it in the middle of the night and pull something loose. And the receptacles dangled around in front, just like...well, sort of like small boobs. They bulged out the front of my shirt and looked odd. I'm glad I didn't have them there for two weeks.
When my doc pulled out the drains, there was a bit of discomfort but no real pain. He didn't yank, just pulled very steadily until they were out. I expect that the removal hurts more the longer the drains are left in.
My chest is pretty swollen right now and probably will be for weeks. But I don't care. I finally look right in a shirt, my god, for the first time since I was a teenager.
How long I have waited for this.
