As a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, he will also play a key role in several hot button issues coming up, such as the current hate crimes legislation awaiting committee action.

Last week, Attorney General Eric Holder told senators to pass the measure. It is a bill that offers gay, lesbian, bi-sexual and transgender crime victims greater protections under the law.

We have and had allies in the Senate but I can't bring myself to be pleased about Franken being there in ANY context.

Surely they had the votes before him and if not they probably still don't.

Have you read any of his books?

He is very preceptive and does tons of research. Armed with the facts he will make other congressmen look like the clowns they are if he needs to. His weakness might be compromising with the knowing the flaws.

I'm telling you all that nothing should be expected from government. It's the culture that matters. Ideas have to be integrated and ingrained within the culture.

It really important that people rise above their governments. Government should be building infrastructure and leaving people alone. Government is a hideous entity composed of the most bestial of all animals - Humans.

Much wisdom here.

I agree.

"A government is a body of people, usually notably ungoverned."
