Lateisha Green was not from Colorado, but as the first state to convict the murderer of a trans person of committing a hate crime, Green's murder should concern us as well.

According to the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund (TLDEF), Lateisha Green, a 22-year-old African-American transwoman, was shot and killed on November 14, 2008, outside a house party in Syracuse. The accused shooter, Dwight R. DeLee, was allegedly motivated by anti-LGBT bias and his belief that Green was gay. He has been charged with second degree murder and a hate crime. DeLee's trial begins on July 13.
