Do you have a hobby?

I work out of town for weeks at a time, and i'm away from my usual hobbies and the means to do them.

So, this has forced me to think outside of the box a little.

There is always something to do; you just have to go do it.

Some things that come to mind are - going to the movies, going to the library, going to the mall (you don't have to shop, it's fun to get a drink and just people watch), go on a walk, volunteer for an organization that helps others, go to watch a baseball/softball game at a local ball field (usually free), take a bicycle ride, hike a nature trail, find a social club that interests you, join a gym, take up a new sport like tennis or golf. Get yourself out of the house!

Then there are the things you can do at home. Draw up a bubble bath, take a nap, read a good book, rent and watch a movie, fixup a room in the house.

Its a big world out there. Get out in it!

I do that too, nice high school level hardball field not far from where I live, the other night they had a kid (he's going to be a senior in High School next year) who was throwing at 88/89 mph consistently.  The woman's teams here are good too, so much for throwing like a girl, for sure on that.

Drawing is fun I think a lot of us have that in common, and collecting but I can't afford to collect much anymore because Im buying guy stuff :/

I make wirewrap/stone pendants. Also I enjoy the outdoors, camping, hiking, backpacking, etc.

I play music. (Guitar, bass, and drums) Not great at it, but I love trying. Mostly heavy metal and classic rock.
I also play WoW and video games. Also, it has slowed down alot since the birth of my daughter but I race motocross and have a ton of championships from that. Racing i my lifes work. lol So i guess it doesn't count as a hobby, but it sure is fun!

Another thing that can be kinda fun, if you have a digital camera, is to go out and explore your environment, whether it be urban, rural or whatever and snap pictures of people, places and things by just pointing-and-snapping pictures - without looking through the viewfinder and without regard for holding the camera straight or lining up or centering anything. Take a whole card full of pictures and at least a few of them are bound to be visually interesting, if not masterpieces in the making. Keep the ones you like and crop them, edit them or whatever strikes you. The ones you don't like, of course, you can simply delete.

This thread has given me some good ideas.

I basically take care of geese, sit around uselessly, go driving around the city, cook for people, listen to music and wish I had a better sound system, watch movies... I like the idea of cooking ethnic foods, or photography.  If only I had the extra cash for a good digital camera.  I'm too much of a perfectionist to get something crappy.

I play piano (and this year, I resolve to actually practice saxophone outside of school), knit on and off, read when I can, feebly attempt to write, embroider occassionally (okay, rarely; the shoes I'm cross stitching have been in my closet for months).  Usually I do not have enough time for the things I love(stupid school)

you can get real good ones for around $200 these days.  10 or more megapix, image stabilization, optical zoom - and its not the camera, though it helps, its the photographer that gets the shots.  I've seen good artists work with Polaroid and disposable cameras and get awesome stuff.

The last two $100 cameras I have bought (a casio and a cannon) for my kids take excellent photos. Of course, since they we given to the kids one of them already has a broken lcd
