Okay, that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Actually, I'm really glad I saw it.
I heard about this sometime last summer, when my mother told me she saw it, in her special clueless way that is far to similar to Hailey's mom's in the show. The way the mom is outwardly supportive but carries obvious shame is far too familiar to me. Her line, "Hailey -- are you gay?" is priceless. I can just hear my mother saying something that dumb in that same half-supportive, half-horrified manner. Actually, I can think of several times she has. So I'm glad she saw this show, even if it's rather sensationalistic. (It's SVU, affter all.)
I just hope she got the emotional part of the story, rather than just a few factoids that may or may not apply to any particular trans person.
