Hey. So somewhere I read a study (yes, more studies) that said that gay/lesbian/bisexual/transsexual/not "standard hetero" people were more likely to be left handed or ambidextrous. I don't know where it is so I can't link to it. Any thoughts on why this would be? I'm personally a lefty.

Because it just might be similar the whole thing about artists supposedly being more likely to be left handed or the ring finger thing for LGTB. Correlation is not causation type thing.

Apparently TS are also likely to have a mother with many siblings. Odd how that would work. My mother's got eight siblings and my father a couple half siblings. That true for anyone else then?

Well I am right handed.  Right side is more predominant.

An ex brother-in-law, who was left-handed, use to say that left-handed people or in their right mind.  Because he read somewhere that the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body.

Right handed, with three lefty siblings.

Mother an only until she was 10, then had a sibling.  Not until she in her 20s did my grandmother have 2 more kids.

I always thought of myself as ambidextrous, although I almost always write with my right hand.  My mother was one of ten surviving children.  (Gad, they had a lot of kids back then!)

Whenever I take one of those tests to find out if I'm right-brained or left-brained, I end up real close to the middle.   I've always been interested in the bridge between different fields - management and engineering, the computer/user interface, trained in both blue-collar and white-collar fields, etc.

It seems like I've always been stuck in the middle.   But now I'm definitely becoming Kate.  We'll see how that goes.

Statistically, Alzheimer's is very rare among heavy smokers.  Hmm, perhaps Phillip Morris should run a "Smoking Prevents Alzheimer's" campaign? lol

Mostly lefty with certain ambidextrous functionality. Also red-hair (well mostly gray now) like someone else. Mom was one of eight, not sure of dad.

Interesting, I guess I fall somewhere in the 'norm' for the transgendered. Whoot!

Kind of off topic, but moderately interesting in a disturbing kind of way. I decided to dig out my Psychology textbook from college to see it had to say about GID, TG, TS, etc.

There was nothing about transgendered or transexual and one paragraph about GID. It basically described it as a childhood condition whereby the child believes they are the opposite gender and prefer to play with the toys of the other. And in some circumstances, when severe, patients will undergo gender reassignment surgery. It also mentioned that GID is attributed to not being properly reprimanded by mom when we did something that was not acceptable for our birth gender.

I guess my mom didn't discipline enough, I don't remember having any girls toys when growing up. Is that complete BS or what? I could kind of understand if the textbook was from the 50's or 60's, but, no, copyright 2006. One paragraph out of 500 pages, someone needs to get with the 21st century.

I'm a lefty myself, but I just wanted to mention that for my senior year statistics project, I did a study on exactly this subject with my fellow seniors comprising the sample through an anonymous survey.  Granted, my sampling techniques probably don't guarantee objectivity, but there actually was a good amount of correlation between those who identified as something other than straight and those who were left-handed.  I believe it was significant at a 95% level of confidence, with n=240ish.

I'm ambidextrous (with a right side dominance), my younger brother and mother are both lefties (and "normal").
There are 4 kids on moms side, 5 on dads (counting them).
