Opponents of non-discrimination protections for transgender people are quick to raise the red herring of sexual predators hanging out in the restroom – as if making sure transgender people can safely use a restroom somehow negates all the other laws that keep people safe.

When the City of Gainesville, Florida passed an ordinance prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation in early 2008, so-called "Citizens for Good Public Policy" twisted the conversation and brought it to a public vote.
