SRS Options US vs Thailand

Ok.

So, I want to go to Dr. Suporn.  I have a friend who is insistent on me not going to Thailand.  She thinks I will get an infection, or whatever.


My questions are:

1) How safe is Thailand, just in general?
2) What are the certifications for surgeons in Thailand.
3) If you have been, how clean was Dr. Suporns surgical facilities?
4) Are there any advantages to going to Thailand over the USA (I think Dr. Suporn has a really awesome technique)?


Anything else you think is relevant.

Thailand is probably cleaner than the U.S. They also spend a lot more time with you than the big profit places in the U.S. Suporn is a great doctor that has much experience. Has your friend any evidence or experience in Thailand or is it just her imagination. I been through it and I also was to Dr. O I think they are both great but Thailand staff is much better at keeping tabs and spending time with you.

The only thing about Thailand outs side the hospital you need to drink bottle water, because the tap water is not chlorinated.

I was in Bangkok for 27 days. For two weeks I was either in a hospital bed or my hotel room recovering. Out and about once I learned how to spot the con artists and haggle over every little thing I did just fine. Even going through some pretty rough alleyways and the like I never felt that I was in danger (I like to explore <G>).

I have never been to Suporn, did not care for the rude treatment received when I first contacted his office about scheduling surgery with him.

If I could have stayed in the US (or even better and gone to Montreal) I would have in a heart beat. The 27 hours of travel back home, post op were pretty horrific even with the pain killers and swapping out pads on a regular basis. My poor donut was in sad, sad shape by the time I eventually made it home.

A friend went with me and stayed in the hospital room and hotel with me. I have no idea if my trip would have been as good as it was without her. To this day I still thank her for going with me and we still chat about the trip when we get together. Experiencing another culture was something very different for me. I had been out of the country before but not for so long and usually stayed within the limits of the resort areas. In that aspect the trip was fantastic but I still wish I had been able to have surgery closer to home.

I have seen some recent results from Bowers. Wow, is a good word but really understated.

Of course since everyone is different YMMV and all that. Good luck with picking out the right surgeon for yourself and be sure to get as much info on what you need before you head out of the country.

I think that it is all in her imagination. She said we will talk about it later, so we shall see if there is any evidence to back up her claims.

I personally have no information on the subject, hence why I am asking. I know there are some pretty nasty OR's in the USA, but I know nothing about them in Thailand.

Here is what I do know.

I know a ton of people have gone to Dr. Suporn and have awesome results. I have only heard of one person getting an infection, which was a staff infection.

To me though, that's really irellevant because my mother got a staff infection at a hospital in the USA.

I'm sorry that happened to you. I have been treated very nicely by him and his staff, and have been very impressed so far. Just my experience and my thoughts.

Check out US State Department "travel warnings" before you leave for Thailand. Also check out the British version of the US St. Dept, I believe it's referred to as the "overseas office."

Don't insult the monarchy while there. One can pick up 24k gold on the cheap, becareful when shopping though.

Have fun and learn to enjoy Thai food before you leave.

I think if you look at most of the top SRS surgeons, sooner or later you'll find someone who has had a problem and they would tell people never to go to them, or that their facilities are crud.

Most of the people who go to Suporn or Thailand have a good experience.  Just like most of the people who go to US based surgeons.

You'll probably have a good experience with Suporn.

I, personally, chose a western hemisphere based surgeon (McGinn) becuase if I had any complications, my surgeon wasn't on the opposite side of the planet.  Also the total amount of cash outlay for a US vs a top name Thailand doctor was not all that great, within a couple of thousand USD.

This is one of the most important, if not the most important, decisions of your life, and you only get one chance.  Yeah it's a hard call, but you'll probably be fine with just about any top name surgeon.

I chose Suporn because I really like his technique.  I like the way his vagina's look.

I am not basing my decisions on money, but solely on the surgeon and his results.


It really is the hardest decision that I have ever had to make.

idle curiosity....regarding the trip home.

Would a person be better served to take a week or so getting home by taking shorter trips and overnighting in stops along the way, as opposed to grinding out a 27 hour trip all at once?

Just making things up...say Thailand to Israel then Israel to Britain then Britain to the U.S...or some such?

I have selected Dr. Greechart at Yanhee Hospital, Bangkok.  Price and the fact that it includes a two week stay.  The trip home might be rough, but I had not thought of the short hops.  Might even look in to that.

I would like to go with Dr. Nguyen of Lake Oswego, OR.  But he does a two step procedure.  However I would be home with a couple of days in the hospital.  But price is a contributing facter.

Hi Valerie,

I went to Dr Suporn for both my FFS and SRS and honestly can say I had a wonderful experience in Chonburi. The facilities , staff and hospital are fantastic and never at anytime did I feel that I had made a mistake in going to Thailand.

Dr Suporn was trained by Dr Preecha and yes his single stage vaginoplasty surgery is good and also requires no genital electrolysis.

I am English and every UK Surgeon I saw could not guarentee me any kind of depth but Suporn gave me something I had never imagined in both depth and appearance.

Every surgery has its potential safety issues, but 7 years on I know that I selected the right one.

As for my time, I spent 27 days in Thailand. I arrived a few days early so my friend and I could do the tourist thing and then stayed for awhile after the surgery. Glad that I did as he waited until the last minute to do the revision which I think helped with my results but added that much additional pain on the way back.

YMMV of course. I have known women who had surgery and had very little pain or discomfort afterward.

and yes, anyone can have a bad result from a surgeon and, as far as we know, really bad problems are in the minority. Even with my satisfactory results (and fun exploring/staying in another country) I still wish I had been able to stay closer to home and I still encourage others to do the same, if it is within their budget. The OR I was in was clean but then the ones I have been in here have been as well.
