So, I am trying to get counseling to transition (or to transition into a transition lol!)

But I'm wondering...will I ever be able to sing like a girl?
I don't have a very deep voice as it is anyways, it's kind of androgynous, slightly leaning feminine, but it can be manly ish...like david archuleta kind of.

Wondering if I could ever get to sing in the range of people like imogen heap or even taylor swift?
Would money and voice lessons help? (because i don't have any money yet -- the economy is a total burden.)

Thank you for your insights :)

Sure, you can develop a female singing voice. It actually helps with developing a fem. voice in general. I started singing at an early age and would sing both male and female parts of songs I liked. This would trip some folks out a bit. But I didn't care, I just liked singing the songs.

When I was in some top forty bands, guess who would sing the songs with female leads?

His name's nick pitera. wow.

i'll keep him as my role model (it's ironic since he's male lol)

That's great. But nothing new to me really. What do you think I did in the top forty bands?

Yep, if you work on it. It's not easy, but keep working on it.

I'm wanting to work on my singing voice, actually. I just need to dedicate the time and effort. Unfortunately, I've had other stuff on my mind and I really haven't done much for dedication and time. I know my range is pretty decent.

probably not as high as most could though.. stupid voice box and folds.
But probably at least 350 herz, around the 500 if lucky tenor.

The guys singing like female opera singers are usually doing that in falsetto.

I could be wrong and there might be a special physique allowing the vocal fold to become shorter while speaking/singing somehow, but would probably be very intense and hard.

Voice lessons always help.

I used to sing tenor.  Through raising my larynx and pitch I can sing comfortably in the alto range.  And the reduced resonance gives the voice a softer, more feminine sound.

I was in a musical this past year and sang quite respectably with the other women.

I found that as my female voice developed so did my singing voice. If you think about the development of voice patterns even from birth then it should be a natural progression. At least it was for me. As they say practice makes perfect, well as near or as good as we can get it, lol.

I have the book and CD's "somewhere" I got years ago called "Singing for the stars" By Seth Riggs.

It's pretty decent and there's really good stuff for showing you how to use your voice (this technique is decent, there's tons on the net about it). I really wanna dig through my stuff and find it again and work on my singing again.

But, yeah, do some research on it and see if it's right for you.

I'm interested in this, myself.

I used to sing in a garage band back in the 80's when I was a teenager. A lotta hairband metal. lol

Anywho, my voice is nice n' feminine as is and I have sung to myself but I'm kinda reluctant to sing girly-like in the company of anyone else at this point.

All I can say keep practicing and hope you muster the courage to sing in front of others soon with the utmost confidence.

Best of luck!

I sing to stuff that doesn't even have vocals. I'll like make up harmonies that go with intense IDM 8 bit and my own lyrics assuming I'm in a good mood.

Then I'll sing Rise and Inner Universe by Yoko kano, Imogen, and Still Alive (Same vocalist I think).

And then Trent Reznors With Teeth songs which are brilliant to sing to and practice a girl voice with.

And then some Amanda Palmer assuming I'm just that depressed (Depending on the song)

I find on some days my voice just doesn't wanna do anything more than be whispery and raspy.  I usually warm it up by singing in my car.  Not only is it fun, but it works out any kinks a groggy morning might have placed in it.  Warm drinks usually help, as well.

You know, I'm going to be starting vocal femininzation therapy this fall and I have this secret hope that somewhere along the line I'll learn to sing in a female voice.  I've never learned to sing and at this stage in my life it scares me too much to try.... so maybe since I haven't developed a male singing voice I can do the female ????

A gal can hope ??    !!!
