I actualy met a cosmetic surgeon Monday who suggested something interesting. I wasn't there for bone work, but when I started talking about it she suggested using restalyne and botox to simulate the end results. It's more expensive than virtual ffs but you get to actually have the face for 6-8 months so it's kind of tempting.

hmm sweetie I don't see how injectables could simulate such things as reducing brow bossing or chin/jaw reduction or even rhinoplasty. Larger lips, cheeks, that sort of thing, yeah.

I did VFFS and took the pics to my doctor and asked him if they were a realistic expectation.  He said definitely yes.  Post op I'd say Alexandra did a pretty good job with her virtuals.  She also gives a very thorough description about each "procedure performed" in the pics and why she did what she did.  I feel it's worth the price.  Using a verbal description to convey your expectations to your doctor is rolling the dice.

I posted pics in the gallery here and if you look at the side view you can see the shadow af what was there before she altered the pic.  The lack of a smile is intentional because she needs photos that represent your face without expression.  In those pics she took away a small bump on my nose.  I didn't have nose work done with my FFS.

I got a lot of peace of mind from having the pics and the description because the doctor could see what I wanted.

I wasn't impressed with the 'virtual FFS U.K site' and think a good FFS will advise as to what you should really expect from FFS surgery and the limitations in each individual case which may look absolutely nothing like the virtual image projections. I would like to see Dr Ousterhout as I'm not aware of any really good FFS surgeons in the U.K who specialise in the same way as Dr O.

I personally think FFS is the main 'core' proceedure of a gender change and the make or break of being perceived as female.

i agree with maghan on this she is definately passable as a guy just starting this if i hadnt seen her on this sight and just from her photo i wouldnt have been able to clock her on appearence to me voice and facial shape is everything when trying to pass again this may be shallow point of view but it is what the world sees that forms the first impression.

A good number of surgeons do computer simulations however most of them do a bad job at it. Virtual FFS may be a good investment or you might want to try experiment yourself with a picture morphing application (I think there's a free one on the web), and show the results to your surgeon for feedback.

Oops! Don't...don't go there! That's the same as using the infamous dr Pichet for FFS and/or SRS...

Because the chin-surgery alone is called "Alar-Plasty", and for cuter and more female-looking males like me, Chin-Surgery is sometimes enough with the effects of hormones and laser hair removel, to look like female.

Oooops! Alar plasty isn't chinsurgery...alarplasty refers to narrowing of too wide nostrils....

The most minimalistic FFS, the Alarplasty to get a female chin, is a surgery which takes only half an hour

and therefore might be very cheap in the eastern block.

I remember a British TV documentary called 'Facelifts from Hell'...all performed at dirt cheap prices in Poland by a surgeon who didn't even speak a single word of English.
His UK 'assistant' did and she arranged 'surgery' etc.
Well, his UK 'patients' who were into bargains abroad most certainly got Hell...with their botched facelifts, boobjobs, nosejobs, etc.
All his patients needed revision surgery in the UK and some remained disfigured for life.

or getting a happy female life in THIS LIFE!!!

You'll be VERY unhappy in this life if you make the wrong choices, don't do your homework and when you're shopping for cheap 'ffs' surgery in Eastern Europe.

You'll have to find the funds for revision surgery IF possible at all after botched surgery in THIS LIFE.


Just check some UK plastic surgerysites for eastern european surgery 'results' for instance...

Unless FFS is LESS than subtle - and even then, I cannot quite see how it would REALLY work in terms of replicating what the surgeon will finish up with.

I had FFS now 3 week back and still have some 'chipmunk' swelling - which will take MANY weeks to subside according to my surgeon, yet when I will post my picture I'm pretty sure I will look little different ON THE PICTURE. If I would (in my case) I'd be scared, to be quite honest.

I had chin reduction, facelift and neck lift. I'm certain if I'd asked for some computer 'pre-view' I would have gotten some pretty strange looks at best.

Note: As a matter of course they took MANY pictures pre- and post-op for their own use. Yet if I had those and would post them it surely would scare most every one away from FFS!

If I may state my opinion, it be a great marketing tool for who will ask for it, but will you LOOK quite like it? I truly do have my doubts.

One could make a case for BA here - and yet even there I'm even more certain it would just be a sales tool more than some actual representation of the final result, and in any case only becoming apparent AFTER MONTHS of healing.

In fact that may be quite the contrary. Your perceived gender is a brain thing. No amount of body modifications will ever make a woman out of you. True feminism is psychologically based, that when acknowledged, works its way outward, driving the perceived body modifications.

If the attraction to FFS is driven through elements of suicide, then maybe that issue needs to be dealt with first.

Catherine, I agree. Something I've struggled with, and am working on, is having a self image of me as female as opposed to one in which I just feel like a guy. When I look in the mirror it's tough to not see the boy that I'd gotten used to. I've read that some trans women use FFS to give themselves a face that they don't as readily associate with being a boy, and while I'm sure that can be really helpful to many, I've found comfort in the fact that when I get more universally read as female when I relax and project my feminine self image to the world with confidence. It's hard to change how people perceive themselves. (Whoops, I just realized I'm derailing the thread a bit. Sorry OP!)

 It's no big worry... the OP is almost three years old.

I still see the male in the mirror from time to time, and I'm not sure how well I present - people who know say I do so very well, but I'm hardly noticed by people, so there's barely any clues to judge my passability. Perhaps the not being noticed is the sign I'm looking for.

In any case, I have years to decide on FFS. I will take the time to make my considerations very precise and careful.

I do not think that would be possible and certainly not practical. I once belonged to a YAHOO FFS group that had tons of info on virtually every surgeon in the world. I suggest doing a search and joining that group.


If I were in the market for FFS today, I would still go with the master, Dr Ousterhout. No way I am going to go with anyone but the best where my face is concerned. I spoke with the office Friday and Doug is still going strong and "on top of his game" but I expect him to be retiring sometime soon.

That's an excellent advice but you're overlooking something: not everyone can afford a $40.000 FFS ....

Doug wrote the book. Literally. He is the Da Vinci of FFS surgeons. He is to FFS what Newton is to science. That is, of course, if one is looking for a natural look. If one wants to look like Barbie, I am sure there are better options.
