I have to note that I was, expressly, thinking in terms of bone.

Fat deposits do indeed function to change such, and, as one person noted, hey can be pretty darned firm, lol.  I have decent hips (much to my surprise) after time and migration, and this is why I noted the point of genetics -- I may have started late, and I may have gained some, but my family body type is note sort to produce sharply pronounced hips.  And it would probably help if I had a little lipo in the tummy area, lol.

So, to that extent, you are right, there are indeed surgeries (and that is only one example -- a good plastic surgeon can suggest others) that can give the appearance of such and adapt the non bone parts.

You can also do bone fusion which generally cost 5-7K per hip the technique is very much near alike like a hip transplant, you are left with permanent scarring though.

I am not sure if it is related, I some part of the hip bones about an inch above my belly button and about as wide or tiny bit narrower than my ribs.. it looks kinda weird because most of my fat is still around my waist :X

Is it normal? I mean, at all :X someone told me it's weird.
I barely have space between that bone and the ribs because it's so wide, probably not much of a waist for me :X

I think you're going to have to give pictures or drawings because I can't imagine what bone you are talking about :P.

I think it's the Illiac crest

Erm, maybe I'm confused but I looked that up on wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iliac_crest

Isn't that the hip bone?  Are you saying your hip bones are above your belly button?

Well sorry to say that's a masculine body shape. You have very high hips.

I am not sure if it's related to masculine/feminine, the only other person I met that has the same shape was a ftm/gender queer pre-t, most my friends and mom and her boyfriend have it just about the same as belly button or below, while the guys tend to have it below.

I think it's more related to a short torso.

Then again I also kinda doubt my hips are broad in any way as they might should be, which is a bit more of a female/male hips marker than where the illiac rest is.

Although I am quite happy with the body measurements 2.5 months after estrogen (5.5-8 if you count the 3-4 months I took estrogen over a year ago), and they are probably just going to improve.

What contributes to this kind of shape if it's not the position of the hips anyways?

It looks as if her hips extend quite high, although maybe a bit narrow too? would you count her as triangle shape or hourglass?

I have that same thing, just with more fat on my waistline at the same time :D

Well the iliac crests are most of the pelvis, then there's the true pelvis and the sacrum. So it's very much a gender marker.

And she looks like a straight hourglass figure.

I said it's masculine because male hips go higher than women's hips and usually the fat collects above them. I'm guessing what you look like from the description because there's no picture. I could probably go on for days on physical gender differences.

You could be right, probably are, I doubt I had enough estrogen until lately for any good changes to happen for the pelvis. But I still think short torso can affect it even more (I did encounter females with the pelvis bone ending higher than the belly button).

But still, it seems to look ok :)
Maybe a bit narrow, but there isn't much (if at all) of fat at the sides of it, though I don't think there is going to be much fat at the sides of the pubic bones and much at the crest anyways, probably just near it.

"It's supposed to be about 21 for the hips.  However, I'm 25 and I've gotten a bit of bone growth, and it's still going on."

That's a relief to hear, I started my hormones back in May and I'm 21. At nearly five months in I've gotten some hip growth, but not really enough to offset my shoulders yet.

Really? you got hip growth and you are sure it's bone?

I wonder if how many have measurements of before and after and how many can say they notice bone.

yea im thinking about get brazillan butt lift thing and lipo on my hip area

Well I know I have always had them and a butt, from my teen years on up. Traditional mens jeans never fit me, I always wore loose fit or baggy ones otherwise everything was always really tight in the seat and thighs. (mens jeans generally didn't have any stretch in them.)  Now I don't have a really wide pelvis. But I do have very round and full hips. For reference, pre-HRT my measurements were 35-29-39. Granted that middle number was higher back when I let myself go. It's been only 6 months so I haven't remeasured them yet.

I do get asked all the time how I create them, all I can simply tell people is they are mine.  ;D

Now if I just didn't have these cursed wide shoulders.  :(
If I had a penny for my thoughts, I'd be a millionaire.

I think hips is one of those things where there is a lot of overlap between men and women (not talking about fat! lol). The highest part of my hip bones are still under my belly button, but I'm 5'10" so don't know if height has anything to do with it. I do know that any weight I gain these days goes straight to breasts and hips, and I have a definite waistline now whereas I used to be straight up and down in there.

I think there might just be a chance hips still develop.
I remember reading hips bones never really fuse and if they do it's at the 30s or even 40s.

It's usually stays quite a bit as cartilage and flexible.

I could be wrong and I can't remember where I read that.

I am really curious about making a statistics thread with a poll to see the results.

Edit:

QuoteI think hips is one of those things where there is a lot of overlap between men and women

Actually, the pelvis is very different:

http://coffeeblackandcigarettes.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/pelvis_ap_r-l.jpg

Easiest differences to spot:
Bigger wider opening in females.
Pubic bones are wider in females, extending left to right, males have small (see the eyes at each pubic bone) space there, they are narrowed left to right, sometimes taller (top to bottom)

Triangle (space at the bottom, middle) in between both pubic bones (left and right pubic bones) is greater than 90 degrees in females, smaller in males.

Iliac crest (the two top "wing" structures at each side) is broader and rounder in females.
Not sure if there is any true height differences but it might.

Any tips, I have no hips? I wish I had hips and I feel a decade on HRT was a complete waste of time.

There are some exercises that can add a little to the hips and butt, but not a lot.

Yes the pelvis is very different but I wasn't referring to bone structure just fat distribution/general outer appearance. A gg's pelvis has to spread to accomodate childbirth, which can still occur at least into 40's. I actually knew a woman who had a child at age 52, but I think that's kind of rare and it probably hurt like hell; I didn't ask lol

Padding does the trick, but of course, it's only an illusion...

Not all of us are lucky enough to have the full hourglass, not least of all hips wider than our shoulders.

I admit to having a good cry over this from time to time, but what else can be done?
