Hi Girls,
why is it we feel the need to conform to societies views? I mean I look at myself in the mirror, and it annoys me. I haven't started any treatment yet. But by male standards I am not very masculine. I have quite a feminine face which makes me look young and innocent, but it is angular too! I am average height but small built. I even have size six/seven feet! (uk size). But I look at myself and cannot see how I could successfully pass in the future.

I look at myself and then I try to imagine myself and I end up looking like those girls from theusic videos! Which makes me feel down as I know it ain't possible!
So what can we do? Do we try our best to pass or do we let the world know our secrets?
I have found the media (especially over here) are not exactly a good publisist for transgender issues. But enough of my ranting, I open this to you all! Opinions please!
Hugs,
April

Hi April
We do what we can do. Not every girl looks like Miss Universe and not every guy looks like Brad Pitt . We are all unique and beautiful in our own way. Try not to get bugged down with looks etc. I think many of us would argue it is the way we feel is more important.

Oh and welcome BTW April  ^-^

Feel free to post, read and discuss.
Lots of information here.

I'm in Australia so this is a very multi country site

Hi Dianna,
I'm in Adelaide.

I think all people have a tendency to see themselves as they wish rather than what they are.

I'm not bigoted but...
I'm not racist but..
I'm not obese but...
I'm not anoerexic..
I'm not whatever but it isn't my fault, it's society's

Hey there April.

Why do we conform?
Well look at your own statement, you view the 'idea; female form' in a certain way. While somewhat idealised by the dancers, there is a way things are...

If we want to live in this society, we must follow atleast some of its social rules. And they are more than gender franky.... in the real world, gender is such a small consideration for most people, i often find it facinating how its obsessed over and disected here.

Its like in my english class... We took books I loved, and tore them to bits... disected them till we 'understood thier meaning. But when we understood what we thought the author meant, we had lost what they were trying to say...

Gender is like a book. When we rip them both apart to find out what they truely mean.... we lose what they are.

Society has standards yes. Billions are happy with them. so am I largely ( Not going into feminism and sexism here, FAR too long). There are more important things in life to worry about than gender politics.

If you want to fit in with society, you follow the rules. dont want to follow them? dont cry when people point this out.

I wasn't complaining about it I was merely posing the question as to why we are conditioned into such views as to the perfect man/woman that's all.

Human nature.

We all want to be the best, the most perfect, the most x y or z. Human nature is a complicated thing. But perhaps greed is the best one to use? we all want these things for ourselves... the money, the body, the inteligence, the love, the friends.... its a bit of a blunt way of describing it. but it sortof fits.

We strive for perfection in things. Its who we are as a species.

Society in general it is all about procreation.  The best for breeding purposes.  Richer means better providing.  Perfect figure means more children. Built like Vin Diesel means protection. Great looks means better looking children. Even scent has to do with sex.

I think that, especially when we transition, we have a tendency to to conform to the society's views as a way of blending in.  Then as we move forward, we change to reflex our own style and tastes.  But even then we dress to attract potential mates, even if we are per-op.  And even if we aren't looking right then.  It is more of a "Can I really attract the opposite ( same birth ) sex"?  And if we determine our own sexual orientation, it becomes "Can I really attract the same ( True gender ) sex"?

Survival of the species.  It is thousands of century old.
