I know I seem to be asking a lot of questions but i@m going through my thick stage so i apologise. I've been in touch with the deed poll services who say i can change my name whenever i want and my title to Mr but can't change my gender til i get a gender recognition certificate. Does that mean that if i change my name and title now on my passport, driving licence etc which i assume will cost me; will i then need to pay again to get my gender changed at a later date? Also what happens during your RLE if all your documents say female?

Basically all you do is get your deed poll. Change your title and name. Get a 3x Official copies of the deed poll. (I can send you the link to the people I used Pm me) Asking them to change your name and title plus gender. (I do not have the gender recognition certificate as yet and they changed my gender passport and dvla) As many systems do not allow title to be Mr and there sex to be female. Its a one way street there.

The only problem you may encounter is either the DVLA or the Passport service other than that everyone will do it.

I had to pay for a new passport to change my name/title and gender so it was then £78.00 and I updated the picture (I got my signed again for good measure) If you ask for it they will add extra time onto the next passport as its not a renwal its just for changes but you have to ask for that in your letter.

DVLA, I didn't have to pay and I updated my picture its best to call and ask them. But to change the name I am pretty sure its free.

Are you seeing a doctor at the moment regarding gender issues? If so ask them nicely if they will write you a letter asking for company's to change your gender to male.

Oh the only people who will ask for official copies of the deed poll will be DVLA and passport for obvious reasons.

However a photocopy of the deed poll is sufficient for other companies.

Any more questions please don't hesitate to contact me :)

Found this:

There's plenty more useful info on DirectGov if you look for it. I remember reading that if you want to change your drivers license that you have to pay £20 to change the name and photo.

They ask for proof you've used the name for some time. What proof is this?  ???

I paid £17.50 to get my name changed on my license and sent my deed poll certificate and a letter from my gender clinic advising that they changed my gender marker as well as my name.

I filled in the form explaining exactly why I was getting it changed and ticked the box for "medical reasons". They changed it all and updated the picture and I now have a male license number.

The best bit about it? Because it was medical they refunded the money and did it for free.

In the UK, one can change a name by merely start using it, there is no legal requirement. For official things, they might ask for more. A deed poll is fine.

There is no gender marker on our license here in the UK or no title. The only thing showing is your picture and your name.

Held full UK license since 05 and they have changed it since, it may be on your other part but you do not need to carry that around with you.

I am pretty sure you have to pay £17.50 to change your photo.

But I would def try and get a letter from a doctor.

Actually the numbers are different for males and females. Police officers and the DVLA will know if they are male or female numbers.

And I changed my photo without paying, as I said. But I did have that letter from the clinic. Although any letter supporting your transition stating that you are required to live as male should do it. Maybe your GP could help if you're can't get one from a gender clinic.

There's no explicit gender marker in the paper counterpart either.

What about if you've already changed your name by deed poll in the past? :)

Well I was a police officer and I didn't know this until I googled it today.
