Five more years until my Army time is done.
Coping is difficult, and I feel gender therapy would be incredibly helpful at this juncture... so... I emailed a therapist.

It'd be almost a two hour drive, which feels geographically far enough from me to offer some safety, as well as the additional precautions I mention in the email.

QuoteGood morning,

I found your listing on the Transitionalmale.com, offering gender therapy for transsexuals.

I currently self-identify as being a female-to-male transsexual, and feel that therapy would be very beneficial to me.
My dilemma is that I am also currently a member of the US Army, and for obvious reasons, would need to keep any therapy I received, strictly confidential.
While I understand that all therapy is traditionally confidential, I also know that the Army, should they somehow become suspicious, can require me to sign a release form which would, by law, force you to disclose at a minimum, the nature of the therapy, any resultant diagnosis and the prognosis.

I feel very strongly that I need therapy, but I also know that it needs to be anonymous; ie, I would need to be able to pay in cash, and under an assumed name/alias, until such time as my current enlistment ends (2014).  In this way, you could not be asked to release information, as you would not have treated a patient under the name listed on the release form.

Do you feel this is something your office could accommodate?
I fully understand if this isn't possible, or if you would not be comfortable with this sort of undertaking, it certainly is outside the norm.

Regardless, thank you for your time,

"Aaron"

Very clever, good job. My therapist didn't know my legal name for several sessions either. It's obvious I wasn't born Rebecca, and I assume your'e visibly not an Aaron yet either...but if they want to help and your'e paying cash this shouldn't be an issue.

It looks pretty good as far as I can see.  The only glitch might be your clearance.  I don't know what level you have, but that can create additional difficulties in trying to do anything anonymously.

(I had to renew mine unexpectedly soon after a gender consult.  It wasn't included on the form, but I wasn't going to lie to them when they interviewed me.  I was, however, able to tell the truth in a way they accepted.)
