Name Change and work

I've gotten my name changed via TDLEF here in NYC (YAY!). The downside is dealing with all the red tape on both sides of the border (who knew that the Ontario Registrar needed the name change signed and stamped by a Commissioner and that a judge isn't sufficient! Go figure eh?). Anyways, so I have to resubmit them again. I know it's going to be a long process, especially since I don't have a driver's license (I've lived in major cities all my life and never had a need for a car).

Anyways, since this is going to take a while (I'm projecting 4-6 months) I was curious if anyone was able to get work IT to change the name associated to their email address and if, in California (where my company is HQ'd in), there is a law requiring them to do so? I will -- eventually -- get the SSN, Passport and visa done but it's going to take time. In the meantime, clients are getting confused by the original birth name and the new name references. It's also driving me nuts.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Have you tried talking to your HR department about it?  My name change has been tied up in legal matters, and had to go full-time without executing the change.  My HR department arranged for everything to get changed to my pending name.  Might be a place to start.

Well, we have an internal ticketing system where we can file this and I have re-filed (they refused the first time because they said they wanted an SSN for it). But I know they've done it for those who have gotten married, changed their last name and created an alias.

I was curious if there was, however, a legal recourse (if I need to go that far).
