Trying to play metal on an ugly old Fender amplifier...

Alright, the bad news is my uncle died, I'll get over it. I never asked him to will me anything, & certanly didn't expect anything. Well out of love he left his old amp to me cuz he knew I liked to diddle around with a guitar. The thing is, this amp is like a total piece of crap ld Fender from the 60's. I think it was a blonde twin reverber? Any way no good for metal & that ugly cigar stained crap it was wrapped in(tolux?). I got most of that off with a box cutter. Any way I paid almost $500 to the guys at guitar store to dissembowel the guts out & put the newest line6 tech into it, but it still sounds kinda crappy. I think it's the speakers, & I'm tired of throwing money away on this hopeless piece of crap. Do you think a pawn shop would buy it?

They would have if you hadn't gutted and stripped it.  Sorry, but this old classic rock fanatic just had a heart attack after reading what you did to a classic amp.  You could have gotten $600 - $1200 for it if you'd sold it on Craigslist. (Depending on age, model, and condition.)  Possibly more.  Now you'll be lucky to get a couple hundred.

Not kidding.  There are lots of blues, jazz, and classic rock players who would kill for one.  You should have sold it and used the funds to buy a Peavy or something.  Too late now.  You live, you learn.

Much as I enjoy metal, just because an amp can't crank out a good metal sound doesn't make it a bad amp.  If it was made in the 60's, I wouldn't expect it to be designed to be the greatest amp for metal music...  it kind of predates metal music.  My uncle was also a musician and left a bunch of instruments and a few amps when he died.  Those amps just don't belong playing metal (I've tried), but they're excellent for the types of music he used to play--mostly folk and gospel.

The Fender's exterior is probably done for if you had it stripped, but see if you can't put the original 'guts' back in and sell it to somebody who plays classic rock or jazz.  I wouldn't count on everybody thinking that playing a Fender from the 60's is an embarrassment... 

And so the $500 isn't a total loss, keep the new guts and see if you can get some new speakers (better suited to metal) and build/buy a cabinet to put it all in.

Well ya nailed me on the jazz. Danny Gatton is as close as I go there. But for blues some of my faves are; Robert Johnson, Ry Cooder, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Earl Hooker, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Albert King, BB King, Gary Moore, George Thorogood, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Muddy Waters, & Kenny Wayne Sheperd.

Seems pretty odd to me...if you wanted a Line 6 so bad why didn't you take that same "almost $500" you spent to have Line 6 technology put in this "crap" Fender amp and just buy a new amp??  I have Line 6 Spider III 120 that will play anything from Beethoven to the most violent metal plus over 400 presets and effects AND it cost less than $500.  I'm gonna join the skeptic club on this one.
