There has been lots of speculation lately about whether former Police Commission President Theresa Sparks will run for supervisor.

Let's clear that up.

"I am running," Sparks said this week. "I will be making an official announcement in the next couple of weeks." Uh, actually Theresa, you just did.

But that doesn't end the intrigue. Sparks was married twice and fathered three children before undergoing sexual reassignment surgery and moving here to live as a transgender woman in 1997. She's also an impressive public speaker and a well-connected political advocate in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community. Talk about the perfect candidate for this city.
