So after breaking it off with my ex I met a girl (well, woman really, shes a few years older than me) and we've been seeing each other pretty regularly. She always saw me as male, though mentioned I looked younger than I am and mentioned my voice before, and she only knows me as Chris and until this evening didn't know anything was "amiss"...finally revealed my ftm status.
To which I was pleasantly surprised. Not only was she accepting, she looked at me like I was insane for even thinking it would be offputting, saying matter-of-factly that she was well aware of the difference between sex and gender and I was silly to be awkward about it and all that mattered was I was, have been, and always will be a man in her eyes. And then finished the conversation off with how stupid it was that our culture found binary gender so important and shuns anyone who is different...and then we continued on with the night as if nothing had happened.
I live in an area that doesn't see much of the LBGT community at all so this floored me. I'm shackling this one to my ankle, she's never getting away.
