How do I get the guts to go to a department store, and ask for advice on make up?

And looking like a guy while doing it. I am just looking for face make up.

Maybe look up a local Avon or Mary Kay person, or sometimes places that do laser and electro have their own products. Avon has a website that will list people near you and their contact info. I'm looking for a new Avon lady, the one I have now likes to make me up like a hooker (she doesn't mean it, she makes herself up that way too) and I'm not learning a darn thing from her.

Remember honey store or sales rep or whatever, if they're in the makeup business you prolly aren't the first tranni they've ever met. People like them love us because we spend good amounts of money on their stuff and are pretty fiercely brand loyal.

I was told to go to the MAC counter (if there's one near you) and it was good advice. the girls there didn't bat an eye at the idea.

It seems to me you know what you need to do; to wit, go to the makeup counter at your local Macy's or wherever. Or Mac. Or wherever. Good. Now you just need the courage.

I hear you can get some in the Emerald City. Ask for the Wizard.

I got mine by scaring the crap out of myself repeatedly in the mountains. The first time I went to a department store to get makeup for myself (including finding the right tones and products), the slight possibility I might be sneered at by some girl behind a counter seemed a less pressing concern than the real (though small) possibility I have faced many times that I might leave a bloody streak on a mountainside as I departed from this world.

So, my advice to you is to take up rock climbing. It's more practical than a trip to Oz, and more effective.

p.s. -- Getting a girl friend to come with you can't hurt either.

If you go to Sephora, the people there are always willing to helping. ^_^

Hmm, never thought to ask for such advice in any presentation.

How about when you shop for loin clothes? One size fits all? Sorry matey

Seriosly as others have said just ask. Bigger the store the better. IF there is as much as a sneer walk away and go somewhere else. I have never been insulted in anyway buying clothes or makeup when dressed in drab and of course never as Cindy.
In fact (and I must post the pics) I walked past a shoe shop that had the most amazing pair of heels. HAD to have them. I was wearing a full buisness suit (male :'() walked in, there were lots of GG trying shoes on; I just asked. I love those shoes can I try a pair. NO problems, I was sat down I took my shoes off. My painted tootsies were obvious. I ended up trying several pairs AT the instance of the sales girl. No she wasn't jerking me. At the final sale she looked at me again and just said thank you for the sale please come back at any time.

Fear is the enemy. Always has been.

Oh BTW when you go to buy and try makeup, do shave if you haven't had electro  That does make matching difficult. And be prepared for questions. What are your favourite colours, are you going to go out at night or day. Full sunlight or clubbing etc.

They again are not being rude. I, and I think every girl, eventually has makeup for the situation. Don't go to a friends wedding looking like you are about to hit the clubs. She will NOT appreciate it, whoops  Don't go to a Tupperware party looking like fairy floss. Unless you want to.

I agree with Becca.  I am a Avon Rep, and I use it.  I love it because Avon is a leader in cosmetics and anti-aging serums.

Can you teach me to wear make up without looking like a lady of the evening? I'd seriously drive for those skills. My mom is a hooch, so she's no good, and the only other genetic women in my life are lesbians who don't touch the stuff and get all preachy with me when I ask them.

It is easy Hon.  And without looking like you are a Lady of the evening.  Anythime, Sweey.

I had a woman who's an Avon rep mention it to me but it seems like there's a rep on every corner here and I had/have SERIOUS doubts that a known transsexual would get many/any customers in this area.

I am not unimpressed with the compensation and discounts mind you, but I don't want to be a joke while making no money at all either.

That is why I have a website and let it be known to any transwoman would likes Avon.  As a transwoman myself I understand that it is hard sometimes to go buy makeup.

Your website is lame though, I looked at it a while back and couldn't figure it
out. I know that's not your fault, it's theirs. You should make one outside their system if you want to cater to transwomen and put like basic tips and tutorials on it, as well as your direct contact info. The vastness of the Avon catalog is a little overwhelming and I think if someone could email you a picture or ask you directly "what do I need for puffy eyes" and stuff that it would help a lot and be worth paying you extra for shipping.

I have thought about it, Becca.  But I know nothing about making a website.

I've been a great fan of Bare Escentuals "Bare Minerals" http://bareescentuals.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-BareEscentuals-Site/default/Home-Show?brandId=BM&site=251

And they have a DVD that comes with the starter kit that shows you step by step instructions, so you can practice in your own home, no crowds, no embarrassment.

not too expensive and it really does work.
