I'm f'in pissed off at how certain places deal with name changes.  The first place was my bank, which was a ridiculous 2 month long process that I'm not gonna describe now cos I'll just get pissed off.

Now it's jury duty.  Over the summer, I got a letter for jury duty sent to my parents' house telling me to go in November, addressed to my old name, even though my name had already been legally changed.  I have school in November so I sent it back to postpone it until over winter break, and also on the postcard it tells you to circle any changes in name or address so I wrote down my new name and circled it.  I got a new thing sent to me, addressed to the old name, telling me I had jury duty in January now.

ALSO like 2 months ago I got jury duty sent to me at my apartment where I'm living for college, addressed to my old name.  This right here symbolizes ridiculous things that happen to me.  I don't know anyone who's gotten jury duty twice, at their two places of living, within a couple months of each other.  But anyway, I don't have to go to that one since you can only go once every 3 years so I let them know that, and the next postcard I got from them was sent to my old name.

So back to the jury duty that I do have to go to.. well when I postponed it at first I didn't think I would be able to get surgery over winter break.  Now I'm getting it at the end of December, so I had to postpone jury duty again.  I called them and told them I needed to postpone it and it was postponed until June.  Also during this time I talked to someone directly and told him "I have changed my name legally.  Please change it in your systems", but when I just got the new postcard from them, yep, my old f'in name is on there.

I'm so pissed off.  I'm gonna show up there in June, titless, probably with a beard by then cos that's 6 more months on T, and have to answer to my old female name.  And my step-dad doesn't even understand why I'm pissed off.  He just tells me "Yeah that's just the government taking their sweet time, blah blah" yeah f you.  I'd like to see him have to answer to a female name, especially in front of other people, just so he can realize how people treat you when you're not of the norm.  I'm sorry but any white, straight, male who has always been male can not understand how any minority in this country is treated.  Pissed as hell.

How does the legal system there chose their jury pool?  Drivers License or Voter Registration?  Here they use the DMV.  Being my D/L is in my name now as well as my voter registration, anything comes in my name not the old ~malename~.

never been called to jury duty. Anyway, what would happen if you said no such person at this address? since there isn't. Does the law say you have to show up or be fined or something?

I can totally relate. I changed my name and gender with the court system in Oregon, DMV and on my voter registration. My jury summons still came in my old name.  They had me change it when I showed up, before I was called. But still seems like it should have been changed when I changed everything else, even through the courts  in the same building I served jury duty in.

I wonder if you couldn't - say about two weeks before the date you are supposed to appear - visit the court clerk with your documents in hand, explain your situation and inform the clerk that you do not intend to answer to "betsy" (or whatever it actually is) in public and they need to take care of it to avoid the situation.

I'm thinking that it's not good to be the tail instead of the dog in this situation.

I'm not sure if they go by license or voter registration, but my name has been changed on both.  I'm assuming license though, since not everyone is registered to vote, and they recently passed a law where anyone can get picked for jury duty, not just registered voters.  Also I'm assuming I'd get in a lot of trouble for not showing up even if that person doesn't technically exist, don't wanna take any chances.

I'm just gonna bring in my name change form and go a bit early and explain the situation.  I'm a lot less angry now, just had to vent I guess.  Cheers!

My two cents' worth: I would call them up specially, right now, and explain that you changed your name X months ago and keep receiving incorrect documents and what is the procedure for fixing the situation? They might well ask you to come down and show them your name change and driver's license, but I advise you to call them now and ask for a NEW summons as proof that they've made the change. Always take care of stuff like this as soon as possible, and always get written confirmation/proof.

you know how i get around this??? i don't vote simple as that. never served on a jury.

tell them you're deaf.
tell them you have a "conflict of interest with the accused"---my ex's dad always uses this one and never does jury duty.
