Unfortunately i've been bitten by the curse of the hairwolf - I've got it everywhere on my body - including my back (gross). I'm considering laser treatment for all of my areas because i have light skin and dark hair. Has anyone else had this problem? Do hormones also reduce body hair? Or am I stuck howling at the moon?

Generally speaking HRT will not reduce the amount of hair that grows from your body, however it will cause it to grow finer and finer.  Of course everyone is a little different.  As far as laser or electro for that matter, is concerned, you are going to have to invest a lot of time and money to get that silky, smooth, hair free skin.

In the mean time while you are deciding, and or experimenting, you may want to consider waxing, waxing from a professional. Yep it will cost a bit but you're worth it.  For example (my personal experience) I been getting a full leg and bikini wax for almost six years now.  I started out going every 4 weeks as my leg hair was dark, think and dense.  Now after being on HRT my leg hair is almost nonexistent, very very fine and I only need to go every 3 to 3 and a half months.

So my recommendation is to get waxed while you decide on a course of action.  Think of this... I think it would be safe to say the most women wax or shave for most of their adult life.

P.S.  Notice I didn't include the face in the waxing thing :)

My arms and legs were very hairy too, but I did not have hair on my chest or back.  After about six months of estrogen, the hair on my arms and legs diminished and now they are completely gone.

I would sometimes wax my arms and legs, but most of the time, I would shave them.

I never had hair on my chest or my back, but if this had been my case, I would have definitely waxed.....and eventually I would have had other types of treatments like electrolysis or laser.

ohh...i tried one of those at home waxing kits once...and ouchies!...i mean it didnt hurt too much at first...but then my legs swelled up later, lol...so i gave up in that. then i got an epilator...and i ony use it on stray hairs...cause my skin still swells up abit from rippin my hairs out...i guess my skin is just too sensitive for that...so now i just shave legs and arms when needed...but i'm still lookin for a better alternative. :)

One thing that I have found that helps is Avon's hair minimization moisturizing cream, I have been using it it mainly on my face, and where I had to shave 2 to 3 times or more a day, now I only have to do it once a day although I could properly get a way with out shaving for maybe 2 days as the hair doesn't grew back as fast or as thick. I also get my back waxed and the hair is definitely finer and not as noticeable, it will be interesting to see what happens now that I have started HRT.

I have considered visible pulse light and electrolysis for hair removal but these are a bit too costly for me at the moment as I am out of work, so for now I am just sticking to shaving, waxing and the hair minimization moisturizing cream

I've not started any form of HRT yet but Ive been waxing and eppilating my chest for years and  awwwwww, it does hurt. I wish after doing it for so long I could give you any advice but hey I cant. Apart from one thing, the first time you do this yes it hurts like hell but susiquent time the pain does ease a little. Maybe your body just gets use to it or the hairs are comming back finer. Who knows.

I, too, have a lot of dark hair over light skin. I just started laser treatments. It can really really hurt! Also, pricey. But I do love seeing myself without hair! Really really love it! I will probably also need electrolysis, but will see how hormones help, as well. The laser gal said that without estrogen, testosterone may fight the laser, but it isn't too soon to start. Gotta be done.

Hi gabriella.

I was quite hairy, but a combination of HRT (Androcur) and waxing, epilation over a period of two years reduced all my body hair to virtually nothing. Now 4 years post Op, I have my legs waxed every 6 weeks and I have no hair (apart from some fine velous hair) on my arms (I epilated these over a year or so).

I never needed laser, but I had a friend who was very hairy and she is now body hair free, due to laser.

So hang on in there as a hair free body can be achieved.
