I just got my freaking CARRY LETTER and it looks incredible. I'm absolutely dancing (and repeatedly censoring out the profanity I usually leak everywhere when I get excited).

Sure, it doesn't mean s**t compared to getting hormones, or top surgery, but whatever. Considering that I never thought I'd get here, that I never thought a therapist would take me seriously, it's a huge deal to me. It means the therapist can 'confirm' my gender status. I want to scream and dance and throw things into the air I'm so freaking psyched.

Bah-ha-ha! A Carry Letter is for me. :laugh:

gratz, mines is unreadable and I got it same day as letter for T but enjoy and glad your thrilled. validation is a thrill of its own.

A letter from your therapist that states you are under their care for GID.  Mine also says that I am to be treated as a woman.

Wow, congrats!

I'm still waiting for my doc to set me up with a therapist (i asked too close to the holidays, so i'm still waiting.) Good thing i'm rather patient....  ::)

Any step in the right direction is a big thing - you're entitled to a few "leaks" here and there.

Wow. I haven't heard of this. What would I need it for? Is this different than a letter to an endo or surgeon? Would this be for changing name, gender, etc.? Sorry if this sounds stupid.

A carry letter, for me, is the most plausible way to get my family to take me seriously. A sort of 'yes, I've thought this through. yes, I understand the implications. yes, I've talked to a professional - see?' It's a form of validation if they decide to really get on my case about it.

Otherwise, it's useful if you're in a social situation and get clocked; and in trouble for it. (A simple and slightly poor example would be a gendered bathroom.) Some people have also been able to use them to change the gender markers on their IDs and such.

Congratulations. I myself never got a carry letter, not any reason why, just never really thought about it I guess. But I didn't have the family issues and things like that by the time I started therapy (the joy of coming out and then waiting 7 years before you do anything haha).

I get to go in tomorrow to see my endo and get paperwork filled out to have my gender changed on my license. The ACLU got together with Nebraska's DMV and came up with a document that your doctor can fill out saying that you meet the requirements to request a gender change on your license due to social gender recognition. I don't have any plans for bottom surgery so that was always a huge concern for me, both this state and the state I was born in are very tough to get your gender legally changed in, especially if you don't anticipate going "all the way" with surgeries.

Darn it, I had to postpone my appointment with my endo today. Now I have to wait almost 3 weeks before I get to go in and get my paperwork to change the gender on my license. Normally to me this wouldn't be a big deal, I suffer from having a high amount of patience, but I'm looking for a job right now and it would be so nice to not have to explain why my one form of picture ID says I'm female. 🙁

Sorry about the wait on that. I know what you mean by the ID thing. This weekend I was buying something with cash and the cashier just kept looking at me. He finally said he needed to see my ID. I asked him why it was necessary and he just replied he needed to see it. So he's checking my ID, looking back at me, checking it again, etc. I can't be sure, but I think he was trying to figure out my body gender. Embarrassing. :icon_redface:
