Christmas went a lot better than I feared.

This Christmas was the first time I saw a number of relatives since transitioning.  Some of them are quite conservative, homophobic, etc., so I was quite worried about how this was going to go down.  To my great surprise, everyone was very supportive.  They tried very hard (albeit often unsuccessfully  ::) ) to get the name and pronouns right, and nobody made any negative comments.

At one point one of my cousins, whom I hadn't told yet, called, and I ended up having to tell him on the phone without preparation.  (Couldn't hide the voice change, you see.)  His response was, "Wow.  That is a change.  Congratulations."

So, once again, reality has been almost anti-climactic compared to the anticipation.  Fortunately.  ;D

Welcome back Jamie.  I am glad Christmas went well for you.  Anticipation is a killer, but went it is over you think to yourself; "What was I worried about".

I'm glad to see another person had a great Christmas.

I was really, really anxious about Christmas...my mother had told my grandmother on Christmas eve during the day and she went and told the family, so I couldn't prepare the way I had hoped to. Got there on Christmas and everyone acted normally and very friendly, and my grandmother hugged me and said that though she didn't approve of me transitioning she did respect my choice and I would always be her grandkid and loved. (if you knew my grandmother you would know how really accepting that is of her...she's against gay marriage because "queers shouldn't be the same as christian decent folk" and actually went out with pneumonia to vote against it >.<) My mother even went clothes shopping with me to pick out a nice men's dress shirt for Christmas and some new jeans.  ;D

Sometimes I think we're more judgemental of ourselves than the ones we worry about.
