This Christmas was the first time I saw a number of relatives since transitioning. Some of them are quite conservative, homophobic, etc., so I was quite worried about how this was going to go down. To my great surprise, everyone was very supportive. They tried very hard (albeit often unsuccessfully

) to get the name and pronouns right, and nobody made any negative comments.
At one point one of my cousins, whom I hadn't told yet, called, and I ended up having to tell him on the phone without preparation. (Couldn't hide the voice change, you see.) His response was, "Wow. That is a change. Congratulations."
So, once again, reality has been almost anti-climactic compared to the anticipation. Fortunately.
