The book talk went well.  There were maybe a half dozen people present.  Found out that the library is ordering another couple of copies because there is a long waiting line.  That, in and of itself, is pretty cool.

THe projector at the library was nonfunctional, so I did it without using my powerpoint slides.  I asked if they wanted me to read from my book or simply tell my story.  It was unanimous that everyone there preferred if i simply told my story.

So, i stepped in front of the podium, and off I went.

Everyone present was surprised to learn that we, the trans community, have few rights.  I did take the moment to urge everyone to contact their state assemblyman & state senator and urge them to vote in favor of GENDA.

I may even get another speaking gig or two out of this.

As a side note, I had a former student show up.  He is on the same journey, but in reverse.  That was cool.

Awesome!  I was wondering how the talk went. Sounds like you were a hit.  How did it go with your former student?  Good I hope.

Hugs.

He came out to me last summer.  We had a long conversation at the time about this journey - both his and mine.  His difficulty is that he owes the National Guard two years.  If he goes full time before then, he will get a dishonorable discharge and pay back the college financial assistance he received.

For someone in their early 20's, two years seems like forever.  However, he is going to stick out his duty and then transition.

After the book talk, he told me that his girlfriend handled the announcement of his transition the same way my spouse did - by not looking at him anymore.  She keeps him at her 3 or 9 o'clock position when they have to speak.

If nothing else, at least he is doing this in the prime of his life, not later on like me.
