Hi all.

According to this board - as a 24/7 girl who is out to everyone I know and the whole world am I a transvestite a crossdesser (which mean different things here in the UK) or a transexual?

Whilst the man I was is in the corner of my mind I think of myself as a woman now.

Some TS's insist that to be called TS you need to be clinically diagnosed as such.

Hi Annette,

I think you're going to find that this topic is a bit of a can of worms. Lots of strong opinions and no "official" position.

There is a growing belief in the field of medical research that there may be a physiological component that causes one to be born as transsexual. But as there is no medical test as of yet to check for this, it's not terribly helpful in answering your question about yourself.

I would simply say that if you feel like you truly are a woman, and that you are not truly a man despite what your body looks like, you're leaning more toward the transsexual side of things than not. This is especially true if your male body causes you mental & emotional distress, regardless of whether you have the opportunity to change it.

If you're pretty comfortable with your male body, but you still like to be perceived as a woman more or less permanently, you are in a rather poorly defined area when it comes to the current labels. But regardless, you'll have a lot in common with transsexuals in some areas.

If this topic is something you feel you need to know about yourself, therapy can be a great help. Are you seeing a therapist to help you work through this sort of question?

Personal opinion here.  Being a CD or TS is basically a matter of self diagnosis.

Quote from: Standard Terms and Definitions per Susan'sTranssexual: a person who is mentally one gender, but has the body of the other. They desire to live and be accepted as a member of the mental gender, this is generally accompanied by the strong desire to make their body as congruent as possible with the preferred sex through surgery and hormone treatments.

QuoteCrossdresser: a person wears the clothing of the opposite gender, and has no desire to permanently change their sex. There is generally no sexual motivation for the cross-dressing.

QuoteTransvestite: a person who wears the clothing of the opposite gender, and has no desire to permanently change their sex. There is generally a strong sexual motivation for the cross-dressing.

From there it is a matter for you an a gender therapist to determine.

I cannot possibly afford private gender therapy counselling - I will have to see what the NHS can do.

If you want to be, then you are.  Easy as that, according to the rules.

you either are, or you are not.. you is what you is..if you are female you are female..if you are male you are male... i've always known which i am and i'm sure you do too, BUT, it wasn't until i started to see my difference and started asking questions why i was so different...i very quickly found out that the world outside of myself called my difference transsexuality.. doh! and damn it!... then my confusion started...

its just so important you let no-one tell you this and that you find it out for yourself where you are in all this stuff...

If you are really honest with yourself Harry Benjamins book "transsexual phenomenon" is a good looking glass....just google it..
