Damn it! I've been trying to get my financial aid straightened out for this spring semester. Heck I was hoping to live off some of it so I could focus more on school though I planned to make rent while attending. First I was told I had to send everything in. Then I was told that records with my old names needed waivers, then the waivers needed waivers.

Finally I got it all in, then right before christmas break they send me another note saying they needed my social card. Said it was for federal regulation. Fine, even though they would 'get' it when they came back to work a day before tuition. I sent it in. They said it was good. Thought it was over even though i'd be waiting till February for it to clear. But i'd live.

Today coming home I find a letter, a week later, saying they need a cocial card with my NEW NAME. I sent in my social, heck I even sent in a copy with my old and new driver licencse to prove it was me and signed. I had sent in my name change documents a week before. So why the  :icon_censored: do they need my new social card that that I don't have yet? They should have all the info they need. I plan to give them an earful in the morning, that's for DAMN sure. :icon_censored:  :icon_userfriendly:

I hate dealing with those people.  I had to jump thru hoops and then the school decided to lock me out.  Long story.

And make sure you get that pound of flesh ready.

Having lived near 2 VERY large NW Universities AND having an Ex who was a HS guidance counselor....

Walk in, ask for THE person in charge, tell them your situation and that you would REALLY appreciate his/her special guidance or attention to your plight...in private.  Then explain the situation, your experience until now, AND how uncomfortable and SEGREGATED it is making you feel.  Hopefully they can help you tidy up what you have left...AND will be aware of the hurdles involved for the next person.

If you get no PIC (person in charge), they won't talk to you, don't care, etc etc...just tell them you will be back after you speak to the schools' resident expert on Equal Opportunity or GLBTQ representative.  At the very least....you may get an ally to help cut some of that red tape.

Hope it helps :)

Well it involved hitching a ride to a different town, sitting in a lobby for 2 1/2 hours, and constant harassment of the secretaries but I finally got to see the director of financial aid. So now my tuition cost has been put on hold until I get my new social security card and I should receive my aid by the end of February.

Guess the squeaky wheel does get the grease.  >:-)

Going in person to these people is generally the best option.

Going in person to anyone is usually the best option.  It's a lot harder to dismiss people on the phone then it is in an email, and harder in person then when they are on the phone.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...
