The boss of Air New Zealand has taken to wearing pink underwear and ties to show his support for the airline's contentious new drag queen-style uniforms.

New hot pink, lime green and aqua blue outfits unveiled by the national carrier last week have Kiwis reaching for the barf bag, with comments on websites branding them "absolutely hideous", "vile" and "an embarrassing and tragic disaster of epic proportions".

The attire, by famed Kiwi designer Trelise Cooper and still in the concept stage, have not fared much better among those in the know, with stylists likening them to drag queen-meets-barbie and questioning the "over excited" colour palette.

Hmmm... the color scheme is surprising, but nothing compared to the Pink Flight uniform worn at Mardi Gras.
