I was hanging at school with some friends (friends who use the correct pronouns!)

and I was talking with a girl from my class, she knows my name is Elijah, and my friend was there, and happened to call me (he) in front of this girl.  The girl then looked at me and said "wait, um i dont mean this to be offensive, but are you a guy or a girl?"

and I said "guy, yea I get that a lot though" (cause I'm not going to say girl, and i'm not gonna try to explain trans to a stranger)

then she said "ohh, I was confused, you look really feminine, and you kinda dress like a lesbian"

I was wearing some blue jeans, and a college hoodie.. should I stick to my buttondowns?

IMO they're more masculine. Help me pass a lot.

Anybody can wear a hoodie. It's androgynous.

Leather/Fake leather jackets are masculine.
Blazers? Various types of coats/jackets?
Trench coat if that's your thing?

I don't know. If you don't mind buying new clothes, I'm sure there's plenty of warm clothes for men.

I would advise against leather as that's big among butch lesbians.

Button downs and blazers are good. Classic men's clothing is always good.

I love button downs, and I love blazers very much, but i have no idea where to get one that will fit my small frame

A good trick is shopping in the boy's section.

I am curious... what is "dressing like a lesbian"?

Now I'm nervous about my own dress sense!  :-\ Buttondowns are not the done thing here for casualwear, unless you're in management (or just a douche).

I am confused by that comment as well.  Surely 'dressing like a lesbian' is a woman dressing like a man to look butch?  How can a guy dress like a lesbian?

It makes sense if they think you're a girl, I get the lesbian thing a lot.  But if you passed, then why would they say you dress like a lesbian   ???    Sorry don't get that!

He's not passing. That's the point right there. Butch lesbians have a style that is not "male" it's its own thing.

Which is exactly what I'm curious about!

What is butch lesbian style?

(I'll take stone pyramids for 400....).

But really, what is this "lesbian style" thing? What sort of things to they tend to wear? Mens stuff, or womens stuff?

I am curious because I want to do everything in my power NOT to look like a lesbian!

That was hysterical I LOL'd for real.

Anyway. As far as Lesbian style, I think its a lot of androgynous clothes, a little men clothes, and a little female clothes. They have a strange balance of all 3, imo.

I don't think there is anything you can really do about it. Because anything guys wear, could be something a lesbian would wear. And I mean anything, they wear button downs and blazers too.

Stick to your guns, dress like you. If people ask do what you did, "I'm a guy. But I get that all the time."

to me hoodie is fine for a guy and i take it as my usual look.
it turns out very intresting that i get "sir" like all the time but god knows i dont even start binding yet.
so maybe it's not about the clothes, it's about the way you act (like talking, behavior etc.) and of course your temperament as well.
sorry for the expressions i may have make mistake in, i dont speak english fluently :D

Yeah... I don't get that statement. I don't understand "lesbian dress" either. Hoodies are so feminine- guys never wear them. ::) I wouldn't worry about her comment. It sounds to me that you just had an encounter with someone who suffers from Teh Dumb.

Think she was goading you.  ;)

It's up to you, but can I suggest all you really need is a big laugh. Perhaps followed by, 'Yeah, I think you're nice too!'  :D

Cargo pants in masculine cuts?

And avoid leather, I agree. Unless you're Arnold or a hardcore lessie :P

Sorry Elijah

What I meant is that I get the feeling she is just having a go at you. Saying that to poke a bit of fun.

I was suggesting that changing your wardrobe might be over reacting to a jibe.

.__.

... Thanks. But to be honest I REALLY handpick my pictures now. I lost so much weight I should still have DX

I hope it stays that way... I've been so sickly.

Thanks...
Sorry to derail. For the record you don't really strike me as looking like a lesbian from your pictures : D

Maybe post a picture so the forum can more accurately judge your attire?
