I was invited to go to Mardi Gras in Louisiana with a friend. It's about a full days drive from Orlando, and I have no reason not to go.

I have come out to virtually everyone that I know. So she is inviting me along to try to let me go out some (at least that's just a hunch of mine, she hasn't told me that directly.), but it's scary! I'm not quite sure what to do. Huge celebrations aren't usually my thing. Though I enjoy a party with friends, and friends of friends, and I'm quite sociable; it's just that larger events tend to make me uncomfortable.

I already go out in girl clothes, just nothing really feminine. I wear pants (jeans mostly), socks, shoes, sometimes (although rarely) tops and padded bra's to give me more of the figure. I have peirced ears with studs in them, longer highlighed hair, and it's impossible to hide my personality.

"Going out" on such an event (or under any circumstance) seems stressful, but very enticing. I am so tired of feeling restricted, but at the same time I don't know if I feel quite ready for it.

Anyone have any thoughts regarding this?

(After typing and proof reading this message, I have come to realize that I am already about 80% feminine appearance, so I don't know why I'm stressing about finishing it off instead of trying to stay in limbo.)

Well if large events make you nervous, this one isn't just large, it's huge - and this year its going to be off the hook with the 'Aint's win.  But MG has always had a very liberal tone to it, and an 'almost anything goes' motto.

I don't know where you're going, but Baton Rouge, Lafayette (I live 9 minutes from Laf,) and New Orleans are good places to go to Mardi Gras for, if you want to do the tourist thing. Go to Mamou if you want our real cultural Mardi Gras, history...... and chase a chicken and stuff. xD

I've gone to the big ones since I was a pre-teen, and when I was presenting as a very very out lesbian in high school and beyond, no one bothered me as an extremely out person. Even when I wasn't skilled at passing as male, I still got tons of respect, especially in BR and NO.

So if you pass, if you don't, I'm saying go comfortable, go with friends,... wear some black and gold, or purple gold and green. Be yourself, and GET SOME BEADS! :D

I'm pretty sure that if you are wearing some Saint's merch - Drew Brees' jersey in particular - your going to be pretty safe in NO this time around.

Take the advise from yourself. If you really think that you could have a good time and there's nothing really stopping you though, it's only something that you'll possibly regret not at least trying. If it's not your thing, at least now you'll know. If it is though, well... MG is kind of insanely awesome from everyone I've ever heard from regarding the subject.

I think I just might go. I am actually starting to look forward to it.
