LOL , My Epilator (Panasonic ES2025) isn't nearly as bad as my 'One Touch' electrolysis unit. Once you work up the courage to use it on the hair above your lip  :o and then you will know beyond a shadow of a doubt that machine was manufactured in the bowels of hell.

I find shaving, then epilating helps as I pull out less hair at a time, and after a while I can just use the epilator by itself once all or most of the hair is in the growing phase.

I hate mine because it really doesn't work all that well.

I'd shaved beforehand which helped...and had a nice hot bath as well, tho that didn't seem help as much as i thought it would. it took ages tho...nearly an hour to do both my arms.

The results are nice but still...urrrrgh!

I seem to get all pain and not much gain. I'm using a Epilady. What hair it removes seems to come back >:(. I have much more effect from Nair.

Apparently so, but i certainly wouldn't have the nerve to use mine on my face...I'd end up looking like a survivor from some sort of zombie chickenpox apocalypse!

My instruction book says not to use on the face. I think it would be Gestapo level hair removal on the face. >:-)

It was. :police: The second time was a bit easier, though. Still, in the end it resulted in a little too bad a rash and ingrown hairs, and it only worked if the hairs were long enough (so no shaving for a few days). I sincerely don't recommend it as a long-term solution, even though some others here have also tried it over the years. On the other hand, after that experience laser isn't too bad... ;)

I use on on my face and its not too bad.  Eventually you damage the roots enough that the hairs are super thin and barely noticeable.

Maddie, Hikari, does *yanking* the hair out of ones face (as opposed to straight shaving) mean it takes longer for new growth to reappear/become noticeable again? What kind of devise do you use/recommend and how much growth does one have to have for the unit to effectively work in the first place?

I am one of those *fine white haired* people that renders laser treatment totally ineffective but in a way it's a mixed blessing 'cause *facial hair* is really the only thing I have to struggle with . . .

Has anybody else here experienced an almost total cessation of chest, underarm and body hair growth based on the use of HRT alone? How can it be that gg spouse says she shaves almost everday when I on the other hand don't ever have to at all ('cept face of course)?

Am I Indeed A Freak (lol or so she says)? My meds are *nonstandard*, anyone else use "Casodex" and experience this too (or is simply more an issue of "lucky genetics")?

Really? I tried it once and it was a horrible experience I hope to never repeat.

It might have been my epilator but I dunno... Firstly mine was one of those spinning head epilators that rotates at like 160rpm or 200rpm depending on your choice but the problem I found was that it spins too fast and dosen't pull hard enough thus it tends to let go and loose grip or snaps the hair off but dosen't uproot it these hairs always become infected.

You can avoid this somewhat by pushing it harder into your face thus it gets more grip lower down on the hair and uproots it most of the time. but because it spins so fast and at 160rpm pushing it hard onto your skin for about the 20 seconds needed to clear a thick area results in a huge horrible friction or buffing burn which stings for days scabs up and takes over a week to heal by which time hairs are already regrowing under it and have become hugely ingrown.

it might have worked if it had a lower gear it would have been less harsh on my skin.

Edit

That said google mentioned these things when facial hair epilators where entered.

That would work btw when I entered into my male puberty at age 13 I hated and completely despised my facial hair I did something very similar except I used back then.

@kiera: If the hair was plucked out totally (i.e. it didn't just break off) then for me it takes about two weeks for that hair to return, and when it does it is in the growth cycle (i.e. it is thin, soft, and not as dark).

When I shave I have about 16 hours before I notice the growth, and that is primarily because those mature, stiff hairs create terrible stubble. It is like this, removing the hair makes a sapling come back, that is still flexible, but shaving is like chopping down an adult tree that just grows back, it isn't so flexible.

As far as the HRT thing, I have no experience with that :( but I have heard of some people getting less hair growth and others that say it didn't do anything for their androgen driven hairs, so I would lean towards lucky genetics.

@ everyone: as far as the face is concerned, my device doesn't say in the instructions if I should or shouldn't, I did look at an epilady unit that said you could but, it was battery powered, and didn't have variable speeds so I didn't buy it. I haven't used it much on my face I tried it on my neck a bit, and that was rather painful.

Even though my electrolysis machine does a plenty good job of marking my face up (but, the marks do go away) I figure i'd rather use it on my face than my epilator as the hair really doesn't come back. I hate shaving though, and it would take 1.8 million years to clear my legs and chest with electrolysis so, I am going to look into home laser and see if that actually works (i do have pale skin, and dark hair).

The only results I ever got from mine, an Epilady I think, was pain.

That is all you would need. Have to go to the emergency room with an epilator stuck to your face. LOL

I find if I use the epilator regularly, rather than waiting for leg hair to grow in, then it doesn't hurt that much.  Tiny pinpricks are much less painful than trying to pull the rug out all at once.

As for using it on the face, yes you can do that, but from what I've heard it can damage the follicles.  You might think, "YES! I want to damage the follicles!" but damage is different than destroy, and damaged follicles can be harder to get rid of with electrolysis/laser when you go down that route.  So I would recommend not using it on the face.
