Hi all!

I'm in my mid 50's and I am just starting HRT.  I can see myself taking several years to transition.  I'm wondering if there are any age related complications to SRS.

Have any of you heard anything, or gone through this, or are going through this?  I'm curious about your experiences.

Thanks!

There are age related complications to surgery in general, but not usually in your 50s or 60s.

You're WAY to old!  Have you thought about an old folks home?  ::) Uh, oh, ah wait!  I'm older than you!  Drats!  >:D

I gotta get you that book to read.  You'll stop worrying and start anxiously looking forward to completing your transition.

See ya tomorrow!

When you judge others, you do not define them, you define yourself.

Your never too old to transition.

I have transitioned (several years ago), I am still hoping to have surgery and I will be 62 this month.

Hey there old timer.  The only age related complications that you need to be concerned about, and these can be very serious, and that is where the heck are you going to put your walking canes while you are on your back in recovery :P

I'm 54 and my surgery is scheduled for next month.  Don't worry, SRS has the same risks associated with it as any other major surgery, and being in, or getting yourself into shape before surgery will make things go that much better.

Don't fret, the only barriers to transitioning is yourself :)

Hey Julie!  We can take turns pushing each other around in our wheel chairs in the women's wing of the old folks home!  I'll take Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.  You can have the other days and on Sunday, we'll sneak over to the men's wing and let the air out of their donut pillows!  ;)

See ya tomorrow!  Maybe I can get there a little earlier this time!

Thanks ladies for all your passionate responses!  I kinda stirred up the hornet's nest didn't I?  Women with attitude!  I feel like I'm in good company!

I'm glad to see that age is no barrier to transitioning.  Like Steph said, the only barrier is yourself!

Tinker, thank you for that wonderful poem.  It's never too late!

Thanks!
