So I was talking to some transsexual about random stuff relating to the whole situation and since I'm 17 and don't plan on starting everything until I'm legally an adult, she was saying:

"If you've got some money, you can at least legally start now with some decent anti-androgens. It won't make you feminine, but will stop you from getting more masculine. Go to the drug store and look in the supplements for chaste tree berry, saw palmetto or anything to help men with prostate problems."

I wanted to ask what you all thought. Is this a bad or a good idea?
And whatever else you'd like to say.

Natural supplements have no clinically relevant efficacy. Because of this, they are not regulated as drug, but rather in the same manner as food.

You will likely waste a lot of money for no effect.

Go to your family doctor, explain your situation, request an androgen blocker, then make an apointment with a gender therapist.

Do not waste your money on snake oil and wizard charms. Get real medical assistance. If any herb actually worked as a good HRT don't you think every transwoman here would be all over it and there would be lengthy posts on how best to use said plants?

I only know of 1 plant that actually can be of use to a transwoman and that is spearmint, in rather large quantitys. And all it does is slow down your body hair growth so its efficacy is not always optimum.

Many herbs have drugs in them, you should not be ussing them unless you know what is in said plant. Also controling doseages of herbs is not easy if not impossible. Two plants of the same species, one might have 2x the active chemicals you are looking for and anouther could have less than 1% of whats needed.
Just go to a doctor.
So it is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you can win a hundred battles without a single loss.
If you only know yourself, but not your opponent, you may win or may lose.
If you know neither yourself nor your enemy, you will always endanger yourself.

I was rather skeptical of what she said, hence this topic. I don't feel like she knows what she's talking about with the stuff we've went over so I've kind of ignored all advice. I'd rather come here for it where there's a number of people that can answer me.

The closest gender therapist is an hour away and I don't exactly have a method of transportation. I could get a ride but no one is really going to want to drive me all the way there and back.
I've been waiting until I'm 18 (less than a month away now) before I see any doctors about all this. I'm not sure if parents will have to be involved in anyway so I'd prefer them not to be because I haven't come out to them yet.

I've heard regular therapists can be used for gender issues and there are a few around my area that have worked with transgender patients in the past that I plan on seeing.
