Its my understanding that Jamaica is one of the most homophobic places in the world. My question is how do they feel about trans people and is it safe to go for vacation or is it just as dangerous as being a citizen.

They feel just as bad about trans people if not worse.  Some of the women can be ok with it, but the majority don't think too highly of us.  I worked with a girl who was from Kingston and she would travel back and forth quite often.  She was ok and never said anything homophobic or transphobic, but she did confirm exactly your query

Oh wow!!! I met a transgirl from Jamaica when I was younger... When I mentioned wanting to visit Jamaica, she said "Oh no dear, you don't want to go there"

I've always wondered why she never wanted to even go back for a visit

I just figured it was because she had been fairly successful here in the states

Dang! and I like Reggae music

Yeah, Jamaica is absolutely gorgeous and I would love to go there, but the closest I'm going to get are scotch bonnet peppers in my stir-frys :)

you would think that you would be safer since you'd presumably be staying in the more touristy areas.. but Caribbean culture in general is very homophobic, and they definitely group us in that category (I'm generalizing this because I have family from PR/Trinidad). I can't speak for Jamaica beyond saying that I have a close friend whose father owns a profitable business there.. yet she'd rather stay here in FL couch surfing, on food stamps than ever go back there.
