I haven't written much poetry, lately-- working on getting back into the habit.

This is not entirely autobiographical, but it's not exactly fictional, either, if that makes sense...

The Boy You All Know

I'm the boy you all know
The sensitive type--
Wants to be a daddy,
Loves to look pretty.
I'm the little gentleman
In a kindergarten class
Gently scooping up a spider
To set it in the grass.
Heart to heart talks
Between little toy cars
While the stuffed dinosaurs
Put on their Barbie doll clothes.
I'm the man you all know
The feminine type--
Wants to be a teacher
Set a good example.
I'm the pretty gentleman
In his purple shirt and tie
As he holds the door and smiles
For everyone who passes by.
Proud women's studies minor
Decked in a feminism shirt,
But he's not afraid to cry
When an innocent spider dies.
Yes, I'm the boy you all know...

Except that I was born a girl.
